Talent Acquisition Team Lead (Toronto)

Key Responsibilities
- Consult with clients to provide value‑added recommendations in all aspects of recruitment and ensure adherence to Collective Agreements, policies, procedures, and legislation.
- Assist the Manager Talent Acquisition in developing and designing recruitment and onboarding policies and strategies through improved interfaces with the Lines of Business.
- Build a team culture of superior customer service by developing and leading a client‑driven effort, constantly improving processes and procedures to meet changing technical and customer requirements.
- Lead and execute Talent Acquisition–related projects, ensuring effective planning, stakeholder alignment, and successful delivery within established timelines and objectives.
- Coach, develop, and lead a team of recruiters by providing ongoing feedback, reviewing work for quality and accuracy, ensuring adherence to established policies and best practices, and monitoring team performance for continuous improvement.
- Lead and manage recruitment searches for confidential or high‑priority roles, providing ad‑hoc support for escalations or critical hiring needs, and ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Train and onboard new Talent Acquisition staff members; provide training on effective selection programs and evaluate selection decisions.
- Conduct TA HR case monitoring and data integrity reviews to ensure production and quality expectations are met, providing timely feedback and coaching.
- Serve as first‑level escalation point for complex or unique union, pay, or other issues.
- Assist line management in analyzing job requirements, developing selection criteria, and evaluating candidates for selection.
- Coordinate recruitment of students for graduate and co‑op development programs and administer the Hydro One Summer Student hiring program.
- Manage and produce daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly recruitment statistics and KPIs; analyze KPIs to detect trends and recommend solutions that contribute toward higher employee and manager satisfaction.
- Partner with other COE HR team leads to coordinate workflow and communications with key stakeholders, ensuring seamless hand‑off of processes and deliverables.
- Identify and resolve gaps in the knowledge base provided to employees through the HR portal.
- Support the implementation of change initiatives such as new programs, processes, systems, and ways of working, inspiring team members to embrace continuous improvement.
- Advise clients on the interpretation and application of relevant legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Legislation, and related resourcing policies.
- Oversee the team of recruiters, conducting intake meetings with hiring managers, posting requisitions on the applicant tracking system, engaging prospective candidates, screening resumes, interviewing, and using other selection tools and systems as required.
- Recommend suitable sourcing solutions, including active or passive search, advertisements, social media, or other outreach techniques.
- Maintain recruitment records in the applicant tracking system and related databases or spreadsheets.
- Coordinate and participate in career fairs, information sessions, networking events, on‑campus recruitment activities, and other off‑site events to promote employment opportunities.
- Perform other duties as required.
Essential Knowledge
- Knowledge of recruitment & selection tools and best practices.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant workplace legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
Essential Experience
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience using LinkedIn Recruiter to source candidates.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a unionized environment (asset).
- Experience using applicant tracking systems (e.g., Success Factors) to post job requisitions, screen applicants, and report recruitment metrics.
- Experience presenting and speaking in front of groups.
- Experience with recruitment advertising, branding, social media, and outreach activities (asset).
- Experience with Success Factors and SAP, including BI reporting (asset).
Selection Criteria
- Minimum 6 – 8 years of recruiting experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field.
- Knowledge of labour relations theory (asset).
- Ability to attend and lead preparation for career events.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
- Experience providing coaching to Talent Acquisition staff focused on high‑volume, rapid‑cycle recruitment with key performance metrics.
- Knowledge and experience in current recruiting policies, best practices, trends, and innovative technologies (e.g., Applicant Tracking Systems, Success Factors).
- Deep understanding of the employee experience and employment branding.
- Drive for results with the ability to motivate a team to achieve goals; self‑directed and initiative‑taking.
- Proven verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality; ability to prepare messaging for various audiences.
- Strategic thinking with a solid sense of urgency while managing time and priorities.
- Advanced analytical skills and independent judgment to solve problems.
- Strong customer service focus to clients across all levels of the organization.
- Collaboration, results‑driven mindset, interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
- People management skills, leadership ability to coach and provide immediate feedback, and develop team members.
