People and Talent Operations Manager (Toronto)

We are looking for a People and Talent Operations Manager with strong experience to be the founding HR member at one of our client's organisations, a fast‑growing fintech startup. You'll own the full people function across both Canada and the U.S., standing up structured processes where things have previously been handled ad hoc. This is a high‑impact role where you'll build onboarding, off‑boarding, payroll, and compliance frameworks from the ground up while also supporting recruiting coordination.
Responsibilities Own and run payroll, contractor payments, and benefits administration across the US and Canada.
Stand up and maintain structured employee onboarding and off‑boarding processes (offer letters, I‑9s, compliance, legal considerations).
Ensure compliance with employment laws across multiple jurisdictions (US and Canadian entities).
Support recruiting efforts including managing the ATS (Ashby), coordinating candidate pipelines, and working with external recruiters.
Build and enforce HR policies and standard operating procedures as the company scales from around 40 employees.
