We are seeking an individual to join our professional team in Montreal. The successful candidate will support Air Canada\'s internal clients and will assist the Deputy General Counsel — Labour and Employment and other legal leaders on a variety of matters. Represent the Company before courts and government bodies in grievances and other proceedings. Act as advisor on the application of labour and employment law and collective agreements, conduct legal research, prepare legal arguments and provide training on a wide range of labour and employment issues.

Responsibilities

• Represent Air Canada in labour arbitration (traditional and expedited) and in litigation before courts, the Canada Industrial Relations Board and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal or their provincial counterparts.
• Prepare and review correspondence and hearing documents (briefs, witness statements, written submissions, motion materials, settlement documents, etc.).
• Conduct legal research.
• Proactively identify labour and employment legal issues when consulted by internal clients.
• Gather and review information required to respond to requests, complaints and grievances.
• Advise on collective bargaining matters and assist negotiation teams to achieve favorable agreements.
• Provide advice to internal clients on various labour, employment and human rights issues.
• Prepare training materials and deliver training to internal clients on labour, employment and human rights topics.
• Maintain and update the tools and templates used by the Labour and Employment team.

Qualifications

• Law degree from a recognized law school.
• Member of the bar of a Canadian province or territory.
• At least two to five years of experience in labour and employment practice, in private practice or in a large corporate environment, with proven ability to provide legal advice on a wide range of matters.
• Knowledge of Canadian labour law and related procedures.
• Strong business acumen and excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French; strong client service skills.
• Marked abilities in negotiation and representation in grievance arbitration, industrial relations board proceedings and employment litigation.
• Experience in arbitration, human rights tribunal procedure and court procedure is an asset.
• Proficiency with Adobe, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Quicklaw, Westlaw and other online legal research tools.
• Attention to detail and a rigorous approach to legal work; strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
• Strong time‑management skills, including ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously; ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels, with in‑house and external counsel.
• Clear professionalism, integrity and discretion.
• Ability to work under pressure and remain composed in difficult situations while managing multiple priorities.
• Demonstrated punctuality and reliability.
