Manager, Legal Counsel

About the Role

Reporting to the Director, Assistant General Counsel, Corporate Legal Team, you will provide legal guidance in employment and contract matters, supporting the legal needs of the Canadian business. You will partner closely with business teams and stakeholders, advising on risk management and regulatory compliance while fostering innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

• Support business expansion and address issues arising from a globalized workforce in a federally regulated bank.
• Conduct legal research and translate advice into practical business terms.
• Advise on new legislation and regulatory expectations.
• Develop legal guidance and tools to support partners in complex legal environments.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including third‑party agreements under OSFI B10 Guidelines.
• Participate in cross‑functional teams for special projects such as legislation implementation, new products, and risk management.
• Perform other responsibilities as requested.

Basic Qualifications

• Law degree (LLB or JD) and license to practice in Ontario.
• 5+ years of experience in private practice, government, or in‑house counsel.
• Knowledge of the business and regulatory environment in which Capital One (Canada Branch) operates.
• Strong legal research ability.
• Ability to translate legal advice into actionable business guidance.
• Capacity to manage a large volume of work, including complex legal issues, with minimal supervision.
• Team‑player mindset and comfort interacting across departments and job levels.

• Commercially minded with sound judgment and a practical problem‑solving approach.
