Administrative Assistant and Receptionist
$20 - $22 per hourUnitarian House of Ottawa
Job Responsibility:
Unitarian House is a vibrant community of residents, staff, and volunteers which offers affordable housing, security, freedom, and comfort for seniors in a beautiful setting overlooking the Ottawa river.
Our mission is to provide a not-for-profit residence for seniors where, in a secure and caring environment, residents will have maximum independence, opportunities for personal fulfillment, companionship and participation in a dynamic, collaborative community of residents, staff and management.
The Administrative Assistant & Receptionist plays an integral role - you are first point of contact for all visitors. You are a friendly, resourceful problem solver, able to perform a variety of administrative tasks including the preparation of a variety of documents; the timely flow of information, such as mail, email, making announcements; routine bookkeeping such as receiving money and recording financial transactions; maintaining databases; record keeping, and assisting with a variety of events.
- Certificate or diploma in Office Administration, or related field; ideally specializing in Health Services
- 1 - 2 years previous related experience including reception, office administration and various office software applications
- Demonstrated understanding of and empathy for the needs of seniors
- Ability to tactfully handle difficult conversations
- Ability to speak, read and write English, including the ability to follow oral and written instruction, deal with complex situations and act as the first point of contact
- Patience, tolerance, and politeness when responding, providing feedback and/or support to residents and visitors to the residence
- An interest and aptitude in technology and enjoy a hands-on approach to learning
- Working both independently and in a diverse team environment
- Well organized and pay attention to detail
- Work effectively under time constraints
- Ability to speak French is preferred
- Current vulnerable sector check (less than 6 months old)
