Regional Compliance Officer - NBSL (Toronto)

$69k - $129k per year

Supports the business/group leader in the effective implementation, maintenance and administration of first line of defense (1st LOD) programs (e.g., operational risk, AML, compliance, regulatory). The role ensures adherence and efficiency of business operations within the jurisdiction, contributes to a robust risk management culture, and collaborates with first, second and third line functions to identify, mitigate, monitor and report risks.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and advises on risk management requirements within the defined risk appetite.
  • Manages large or complex risk programs, frameworks, projects and initiatives to ensure risks are mitigated and regulations are adhered to.
  • Monitors industry and legislative developments and continuously updates programs to remain competitive and effective.
  • Interprets regulatory requirements, identifies, analyzes and addresses gaps and issues, including those raised through change initiatives.
  • Acts as a subject‑matter expert in evaluating, developing and implementing an internal control system.
  • Executes strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, builds effective relationships and conducts readiness assessments, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment activities.
  • Ensures 1st line jobs follow defined processes and procedures, and develops, documents and maintains business/group procedures with necessary approvals.
  • Creates sustainment strategies, tracks exception requests and facilitates training to ensure employees understand requirements.
  • Provides quality control for investigations, self‑reports, examinations and independent reviews, responding verbally and in writing to regulators and other stakeholders.
  • Serves as the designated Primary Business Unit Compliance Officer (BUCO) and/or Anti‑Money Laundering Reporting Officer, reporting to all program requirements.
  • Supports the 1st LOD program in compliance with principles, standards and guidance from second line of defense groups.
  • Develops and maintains an understanding of business strategies, products, services and processes to manage risk exposures.
  • Investigates, documents and mitigates program risks, raising concerns to senior leaders as needed.
  • Analyzes program effectiveness through periodic reviews and recommends adjustments in line with risk appetite, governance and corporate policy.
  • Assists in internal/external audits or regulatory examinations and develops action plans to resolve issues.
  • Provides consulting, analytical and technical support; exercises judgment to identify, diagnose and solve problems within established rules.
  • Works independently and handles non‑routine situations, with broader accountabilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of relevant experience and a post‑secondary degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong preference for Series 24 – Principal license.
  • Program management skills: in‑depth knowledge and technical proficiency.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills: in‑depth.

  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills: in‑depth.
  • Influence skills: in‑depth.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: $69,000.00 – $129,000.00, paid as a salaried position.
  • Potential commission structure for applicable roles.
  • Health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
