Electrical Project Manager

Position

Winnipeg office of Smith + Andersen is seeking an Electrical Project Manager .

What You'll Do

• Prepare, or assist Principal-in-charge with, the development of all system‑engineering concepts (e.g. design brief) and concept report. Review and manage the design in terms of construction budgets.
• Perform, or arrange for, reviews of existing installation and manage the impact on the project.
• Prepare all calculations and select all equipment. May assign tasks to designer and CAD Technician where appropriate.
• Ensure proper coordination of documents with the internal and external project team (architect, interior designer, and other disciplines).
• Review all deliverables for the project—reports, calculations, drawings, or specifications—at various stages of development and as defined by internal total quality management.
• Promote and enforce company standards relating to project administration, documentation and processes such as total quality management.
• Where requested by the Principal-in-charge or Associate Principal, act as contract administrator for designated projects, ensuring timely completion of all contract administration activities.
• Ensure that shop drawing review process takes place within project timelines.
• Coordinate with the contract administration team regarding drawing reviews, proper set up of contract administration process and site activities.
• Prepare all change notices or review change notices issued by contract administration team.
• Responsible for ensuring tasks are completed both accurately and with the assigned hours/fee.
• Respond to both technical and financial queries related to the project.
• Keep the Principal-in-charge or Associate Principal advised of all changes in scope of work and prepare amendments to the contract (e.g. Request of Additional fee‑RAF) for review and submission to client.
• Ensure the internal project team discipline coordination processes are complete.
• Prepare and continually monitor a schedule of tasks required to complete the project including hours to perform tasks and critical data required for performance.
• Liaise with external consultants and vendors as required to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Support the process of accounts receivable.
• Organize and attend client meetings, including delivering presentations.

Qualifications

• Ten or more years of project engineering experience in the field of electrical building services.
• Registered Engineer in the province of Manitoba.
• A senior C.E.T. with equivalent experience and abilities will also be considered.
• Full understanding of codes and standards relevant for the project and ability to communicate all requirements to the internal project team, external project team, owner, and authorities having jurisdiction.
• Full understanding of (construction) project procurement methodologies and ability to recommend or apply such methods for the project.
• Experience in health care facilities, including Infection Control Certification CAN/CSA Z312 and CSA Z32, would be an asset.
• Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and ability to work independently.
• Demonstrate the ability to work in a complex environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
• Possess sound communication skills as demonstrated through client and staff relations.
• Demonstrate experience working with other consultants and contractors, and coordination of major projects.
• Knowledgeable about provincial building code, electrical code, CSA, ULC, IEEE, IES and NFPA standards.

Nice to Have

• LEED certification / Experience implementing sustainable design (LEED projects) is an asset.
