Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 8:30-4:30.

Tla’amin Nation has the following exciting job opportunities for Tla'amin youth aged 15 to 30 years this summer! This year the Summer Student program will run from July 2nd to August 26th, 2025. We are seeking number of students to fill all the positions; please note that more than one student is needed for some placements.

Key Responsibilities

Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin policies, standards, practices and procedures as directed by the Department Supervisor. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to members, clients, employees and general matters of the Nation.

Placement Opportunities are:

• Recreation Workers (3 students): In this position, you will help lead a variety of recreation programs and activities during our summer camp program, while ensuring the safety and well-being of the čičuy (children). You need to enjoy engaging with children and have a passion for recreation & sport. You also need to have excellent communication skills with the ability to build good relationships with the čičuy while setting clear expectations & boundaries to ensure a fun and safe place for all.

*This position requires successful completion of a Food Safe course that you could do online before starting as well as a acceptable Criminal Record Check. First Aid certification would be a great asset

• Community Services Support Assistant : In this position, your work will vary from week to week, depending on the needs within the community that the department is working to meet. One project will be supporting the Good Food Box work and other hands-on projects like that.

*This position requires a mature student with a full Class 5 driver’s license and someone who understands well the importance of confidentiality and takes direction very well

• Building Maintenance Worker : In this position, you will shadow and learn from our other Building Maintenance Workers. You will help with cleaning exteriors of buildings such as weeding, pressure washing, window washing, etc. You will learn tool skills on basic building repairs and maintenance jobs and will learn about the operations of all our Nation-owned community buildings.

*This should be a fit individual who wants to be active all day...somebody dependable and with a great attitude to learn. Steel-toed boots will be provided.

• Yard Workers (3 positions) : In this position, you will maintain grass and brush around our village during a fast-growing season, contributing to the safety and cleanliness of the village. You will help our elders with their lawns, help keep our parks and trails beautiful and safe, help maintain our drainage ditches, and will learn our garbage and recycling collection p

*This job may require an early start in order to beat the summer heat. It will require wearing the provided personal protective equipment outdoors all day. You must be comfortable holding a weed-eater all day

• Construction Laborer: In this position, you will do hands-on learning with experienced carpenters or plumbers on new construction and renovation projects, including basic tool skills and construction site safety.

*You must be someone willing to be physically active all day long, dependable, and ready to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) that will be provided such as steel-toed boots, high visibility vest, eye protection, and gloves.

• Civil Infrastructure Assistant : This position will entail working mostly at the Nation’s Water Treatment Plant but also doing some work with our Wastewater Treatment Plant & Collection/Distribution Systems. Tasks will include helping with routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and facilities, recording data, supporting water sampling, and learning and following safety procedures, documentation, inspections etc.

*The right student will be interested in public utilities, engineering, or science. You will need to wear provided personal protective equipment (PPE) including steel toed boots, gloves, eye protection, and a high visibility vest

• Housing Admin Junior Assistant: This position requires a motivated and detail-oriented student to support the Housing Team with data entry, records management, and administrative tasks. This role involves handling confidential information, updating and organizing digital and physical files, and working with databases to improve the accuracy and accessibility of our records. The ideal candidate will bring strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced, professional environment.

• Junior Financial & Policy Analyst : In this position, requiring maturity and good writing skills, you would learn to prepare various expense analysis and report on variances against budget and forecast; participate in the preparation of budget and forecast templates; research policy initiatives as directed by Manager of Policy, and support grant writing coordination as directed by Grant Coordinator.

• Intergovernmental Relations Junior Analyst: This position will best suit someone with great communication skills (electronic included) with a particular interest in understanding and supporting a Treaty Nation like Tla’amin. Tasks will include supporting policy research, providing external correspondence and intergovernmental communications, supporting Sister Nation leadership meeting planning and coordination, updating Treaty 101 education materials, and supporting Name Change initiatives.

• IT Records & Information Management Support: This position on the Nation’s IT team (Information Technology) will best suit someone very motivated by and comfortable with a range of computer work. Tasks will be varied, with a focus on digitizing media and records and supporting archiving work.

• Thichum Forestry Workers (2 positions): These positions are ideal for students with a real interest in forestry. This year, students in these positions will get to experience a range of areas; you will spend a week or two over the summer in the following areas of forestry work:


• Log marketing and quality


• Forest Engineering


• Vegetation Management


• Silviculture (the practice of controlling the growth, composition, & quality of forests)


• Firewood


• Mechanic Experience


• Log Dump Experience

* Candidates for these positions need to be motivated and physically fit. You will need to have safety footwear (CSA boots and Caulk boots) which will be provided through this employment

• Guardian Watchmen Assistant: In this position, you accompany the guardian watchmen in their duties which include boat patrols, beach patrols, monitoring, and sampling.

• Land Use Planning Assistant : This position requires a very mature student who will support a range of land use planning and community engagement activities connected to t̓išosəm and broader Lands Department work. Some of the responsibilities will include:


• Conducting background research


• Notetaking and report writing


• Supporting community engagement events


• Gathering feedback from Elders, youth, and the broader community

- Helping plan and support land-based activities

* Interest in planning, Tla’amin lands and environment, communications, governance, or cultural knowledge is beneficial

• Lands Support Assistant : In this position, you would accompany the Lands Support worker on his daily duties which include assessing dangerous trees, moving machinery, and boat patrol.

*This position requires an early morning start

• Hatchery Worker : In this position, you would do both office work like answering phones and emails and doing data entry to support the Harvest App – as well as work in the creek. This requires you to be willing to get your hands and feet wet.

• Language & Culture Workers (up to 3 positions) : In this position, you will help with the work to be done on the Place Names Project working with the Nations’ GIS (geographic information system) team on mapping, language, and audio recordings; you will also work on updating the 13 Moons Calendar – both the script and the graphics; and you will help with organization of the new museum space at Ɂəms ʔayɛ under the direction of the cultural team.

• Jobs in Lund (6 students) : In this location, you will get to experience various jobs listed below so you will gain a breadth of experience to help figure out what positions fit best for you.

*Working out in Lund requires having your own reliable transportation

• Cashier/Store Clerk – Welcome customers and assist them in the store; work as cashier at the till, assisting cash counting, stocking of shelves as needed, keeping area clean and tidy; assisting with the physical inventory count; ensuring the grounds around the store area are clean.

• Gas Dock – Welcome and help customers at the gas dock. Fill gas and diesel for boats that come through the harbour, handle cash, debit, and credit transactions.

*This position requires someone fit, to be able work outside in the direct heat of summer weather and to be capable of cash handling

• Housekeeping/Laundry Assistant – Assist the housekeeper with cleaning rooms, changing bedding, replenishing sundries (soap, towels, coffee), using the laundry facilities on a regular basis.

*This position requires fit individuals to carry laundry downstairs to the laundry room.

• Parking Attendant – Monitor guest parking; ability to manage cash, debit and credit transactions. *This position requires someone who is willing to work in the summer heat and have the ability to communicate effectively with customers.

• Hotel Front Desk – Offer great customer service, be friendly and communicate effectively on the phone and with hotel guests. Having basic computer experience is an asset.

• Tla’amin Student Ambassador – Welcome visitors in a good way and help them with directions around the grounds in Lund; provide general help around the hotel.

Qualifications

• Open to Tla'amin citizens. To qualify, students must be participating in full-time studies and returning to full-time studies in the fall, aged 15 to 30 years between July and August 2025
  


• Must have a SIN number at time of application. NO EXCEPTIONS


• Must have reliable transportation to their place of employment.
