Coordinator, Marketing and Communications

Speed Skating Canada is looking for an enthusiastic individual for the position of Coordinator, Marketing and Communications. The successful candidate will play a critical role in achieving SSC’s strategic priorities as they relate to building the profile of speed skating in Canada through enhanced marketing and communications practices that raise awareness of the sport and inspire participation and retention.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Manager, Marketing and Communications, the Coordinator, Marketing and Communications provides support to the SSC Strategic Plan as it pertains to marketing, communications, and events.

Marketing

· Assists with the creation, scheduling and publication of content and campaigns for SSC’s website and social media channels

· Supports the execution of sponsor marketing campaigns, including the development of co-branded digital assets

· Acts as primary editor of SSC’s public-facing newsletter by coordinating content, design and distribution

· Oversees the development of webpages and promotional assets for domestic events, sport programs, and other initiatives

· Assists with the design, production and distribution of branded assets and merchandise, and manages the day-to-day relationship with the operator of SSC’s online store

· Supports provincial/territorial and club implementation of national marketing initiatives

Communications

· Actively participates in SSC’s media relations efforts, including writing news releases, coordinating interviews, responding to media requests, and monitoring media coverage

· Supports SSC staff in the development and distribution of communications related to various projects and initiatives

· Coordinates the execution of the annual SSC Awards program, including the nomination, selection and presentation processes

· Maintains a database of external awards available to SSC and its members and develops applications for submission

· Assists in the production and distribution of public-facing publications including the SSC Annual Report and SSC Strategic Plan

· Monitors the organization’s general email inbox and directs inquiries to the appropriate staff member

· Supports the collection and management of SSC’s photo and digital asset database

Events

· Provides marketing and communications support for events hosted by Speed Skating Canada and/or its members, including but not limited to:

o Domestic and International competitions

o Festivals and open houses

o Athlete tours and appearances

o Media availabilities and content shoots

· Assists with coordination of event photography, live streaming, and other requirements

· Supports on-site communications and media relations efforts at competitions, including managing social media accounts and assisting with the mixed zone

Qualifications and Competencies

· Post-secondary education in sport administration, marketing, communications, digital media or equivalent experience

· A minimum of one year experience in a similar role, ideally in the sport or non-profit sector

· Highly effective planning and organization skills with a strong attention to detail

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and work efficiently during periods of high stress

· Strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently

· Excellent communication skills, including a confident and professional writing style

· Experience with social media platforms, website editors and email marketing software

· Knowledge of graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva is an asset

· A passion for and knowledge of sport; familiarity with speed skating is an asset

Language

· Ability to communicate fluently (both written and oral) in French and English

Additional Requirements

· Must hold a valid passport and be eligible for international travel

· Online learning and participant consent form for the Canadian Safe Sport Program (CSSP)

Location and Working Conditions

· This is a permanent, full-time position with a hybrid work model

· The selected candidate will be based at one of Speed Skating Canada’s training centres (Montreal, Quebec City or Calgary)

· This position requires occasional travel to attend events, as well as regular evening and weekend work to support event communications and media relations efforts

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with sport organizations of similar size and includes a competitive benefits package, RRSP matching, and a salary determined by the successful candidate’s skills and experience.
