Senior Clinical Pharmacist

The Role

NHSGGC Pharmacy Services is looking for a Band 8A Pharmacist to join our newly developed Interface Team, supporting medicines governance and optimisation across the primary–secondary care interface. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape a new and evolving service, making a real difference to patient safety and care pathways.

In this role, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across acute and primary care, lead governance initiatives, support quality improvement projects, and contribute to service development aligned with the FNC+ programme.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Fixed term - 12 months

Base location - Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

Working pattern - Monday to Friday, with participation in weekend working, public holidays, extended hours, and on-call

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Service Management

• Lead and develop clinical pharmacy services, ensuring safe, effective and compliant practice.
• Manage and support pharmacy staff, driving performance and service improvement.
• Contribute to strategic planning and represent pharmacy within multidisciplinary and regional groups.

Clinical Practice

• Provide advanced pharmaceutical care as an independent prescriber, including complex case management.
• Conduct clinical assessments, interpret investigations and optimise medicine use.
• Prevent and resolve medicine-related problems and ensure adherence to formulary and governance standards.
• Participate in MDT meetings, ward rounds and support continuity of care across settings.

Audit, Research & Quality Improvement

• Lead or contribute to research, audits and quality improvement projects.
• Develop and monitor quality standards for pharmaceutical care.
• Supervise and support staff and students undertaking research and audit work.

Education & Training

• Identify training needs and deliver education for pharmacy staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Support professional development through supervision, assessment and peer review.

General Professional Duties

• Maintain expert clinical knowledge and comply with all legal and professional standards.
• Ensure safe handling, storage and governance of medicines.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

A Master's Degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent) and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

A prescribing qualification

Strong leadership, communication, and collaborative skills
