Senior Charge Nurse - Orthopaedic Trauma

The Role
The Orthopaedic unit in South Glasgow is comprised of 134 beds.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Senior Charge Nurse to lead the nursing team in Orthopaedic Ward 10A. Ward 10A comprises of 28 beds split between patients undergoing elective orthopaedic surgery and patients admitted following trauma.
We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic leader. As SCN in an Orthopaedic ward you will play a pivotal role in supporting and developing the nursing team to deliver consistently excellent care to Orthopaedic patients. The post holder has responsibility for a ward admitting patients post-operatively following major elective surgeries such as joint arthroplasty and spinal surgery. The ward team provides specialist perioperative care, rehabilitation and early discharge in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
You will be the line manager for the nursing team and have responsibility for registered and unregistered staff within the ward. You will have responsibility for ensuring that standards of practice are maintained, reviewed and continuously developed and that staff deliver safe, effective, patient centred, efficient, timely and equitable care within their scope of practice.
You will contribute to the management of the ward budget by ensuring effective use of physical, human and financial resources e.g. the nursing/midwifery resource and supplies including pharmaceutical supplies and equipment.
The post holder will Implement and support an effective and efficient system of clinical supervision for all nursing staff and support their development
It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC with evidence on continuing professional development. You should have substantial post registration experience within Orthopaedics and demonstrate expert clinical and professional practice developed through experience and theoretical knowledge
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Location based in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
- Permanent Contract
- Full time Position (36 hours per week)
- Shift Pattern - Monday - Friday
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership, developing innovative ideas to improve effectiveness and efficiency of care and collaboratively setting and measuring standards of care delivery.
- To develop expert practice in all pertinent areas of ward/department nursing.
- Facilitate the management of change within the ward/dept whether clinical or managerial in nature ensuring that the ward team foster innovative practice and meet patient needs.
- Proactively manage resources to ensure efficient and effective use of such within the area of responsibility and is responsible for the procurement of non stock items and supplies pertinent to area.
- Takes a lead role in the recruitment and selection of staff.
- Ensure that complaints are investigated timeously and subsequent action plans are implemented, making staff aware of user concerns and/or identified trends.
- Lead in the development of training schedules for expansion of nursing roles within sphere of responsibility utilising a competency based methodology.
- Ensure that ward based nurse development programmes are available and implemented within the setting, maintaining accurate records of staff progress and training.
- To maintain an extensive knowledge of ward/unit nursing care by participating in on-going education and continuing self development, including regular appraisal of performance.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- NMC Registration
- Suitable level of experience at Band 6
- Post Registration Qualification pertinent to Specialty is desirable
- Graduate level of education - desirable
