Senior Nurse for Bairns’ Hoose

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the North Strathclyde Bairns Hoose team as part of the Bairns’ Hoose Pathfinder. This newly developed post offers the post holder a unique opportunity to be part of groundbreaking practice in the area of children’s health and wellbeing. As a member of the Bairns’ Hoose Team the post holder will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of the Bairns’ Hoose model with a key focus on the health and wellbeing of children who are referred to the service through the implementation of National Bairns Hoose Standards 8 and 9.

The Bairns’ Hoose offer holistic child centred support and recovery to children who have experienced abuse. Bairns’ Hoose is all about connecting services around the needs of the child by collaborating across agencies and disciplines. The four rooms approach does this by bringing together child protection, health, justice and recovery services in one setting. The post holder will be required to support the implementation of the requisite systems, practice and cultural changes required to achieve the Bairns’ Hoose vision. The postholder will be committed to working collaboratively across professions and agencies and be able to make evidence-based decisions to support improved outcomes for the children, young people and their families as appropriate.

We are seeking candidates with excellent management experience, leadership and interpersonal skills to exert influence and develop constructive working relationships with a wide range of clinical and non-clinical staff. Whilst working as a member of the Bairns’ Hoose Team you will be required to work using your own initiative and prioritise your workload effectively. You will be flexible and adaptable in meeting the evolving needs of children, young people adopting a trauma-based approach to your practice.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Fixed Term Contract for 6 months
  • Full time (36 hours per week)
  • Location based in Bairns Hoose North Strathclyde Pathfinder - Public Protection Service, Central Medical Block Annexe, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital G51 4TF
  • Shift Pattern for this post are 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead and effectively manage the implementation of Standard 8 & 9 whilst comprehensively communicating and consulting with the children and young people/parents/carers as appropriate and the team.
  • Take a lead role in identifying and addressing the health needs of children and young people accessing the Bairns’ Hoose.
  • Leads on transformational and cultural change resulting in a service which demonstrates it is is committed to children’s rights, trauma informed and child centred approaches. This will include a commitment to undertaking comprehensive, evidence based health assessments respecting the rights (based on the requirements of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of theChild (UNCRC)) and wellbeing of the children at all times ensuring access to the relevant support within NHS GGC ensuring positive outcomes.
  • Achieving individual and organisational outcome based targets reflecting the core principles of the Bairns’ Hoose National Standards.
  • Develop and implement policies, pathways of care, working practices and consistent standards across the health system, including independent contractors and multiagency partners whilst ensuring good connectedness across the system.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, service development and associated project work locally and nationally that improves care and outcomes to children and young people in line with North Strathclyde Partnership pathfinder status until 2027

Qualifications And Knowledge Required Are

  • The post holder must be registered with NMC.
  • Educated to Masters level in a relevant nursing area, or can demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge.
  • Hold a post graduate academic qualification in Child Protection (or currently undertaking) and/or have evidence of relevant experience.
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of policy and legislation that guides contemporary child protection practice with recent experience of the application of this practice.
  • Able to provide advice using significant understanding and application of legislation relating to information sharing, data storage and public protection.
  • Robust knowledge of health and social care pathways related to safeguarding, early intervention and protection.
