Supported Independent Living Worker *Auxiliary on Call*

Canadian Mental Health Association Yukon is hiring Supported Independent Living Support Workers for Solstice House, a 24/7 transitional mental health residence supporting individuals living with serious and persistent mental illness.
In this front-line role, you will provide practical, recovery-oriented support to residents as they build daily living skills, stabilize their mental health, and prepare for more independent community living.
Key Responsibilities
- Support residents with daily routines, meal preparation, cleaning, organization, appointments, and community activities
- Provide encouragement and coaching to build independence and confidence
- Offer non-clinical mental health and stabilization support
- Monitor and document changes in resident wellbeing, behavior, or functioning
- Support care plans, recovery goals, safety planning, and house routines
- Provide medication support according to established procedures
- Use de-escalation and crisis response skills when needed
- Work collaboratively with residence leadership, peer support staff, and the broader team
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in social services, mental health, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience supporting individuals with mental health challenges, substance use, or complex needs
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills
- Ability to remain calm and responsive in high-stress situations
- Understanding of trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, client-centered, and culturally safe approaches
- Minimum Class 5 drivers license and clean drivers abstract
Assets
Experience in residential support work, northern or remote communities, First Nations communities, suicide intervention, de-escalation, or crisis response is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
This position involves 24/7 shift work in a shared residential environment. Shifts may include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. The work can be physically and emotionally demanding and requires strong boundaries, compassion, and self-awareness.
