Legal Counsel, Derivatives at BMO Financial Group

BMO Financial Group is in search of a Senior Counsel to support its derivatives practice in Toronto. Drive legal strategy for retail and institutional investment products with your expertise. In the role of Senior Counsel, you will support BMO Global Asset Management by providing comprehensive legal guidance on derivatives. Your focus will include drafting correct documentation and advising on compliance with relevant regulations. You will play a pivotal role in advancing the legal framework that underpins BMO's investment offerings including its innovative funds. Key Responsibilities:
- Act as subject matter expert on derivatives regulations
- Draft and review critical derivative agreements and documentation
- Advise on compliance with investment fund regulations
- Cultivate relationships with stakeholders and external counsel
- Assist in managing risks through informed legal strategies
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in relevant legal settings
- Excellent drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills
- Ability to work with diverse legal and business teams
- Knowledge of financial regulations and legal practices
