UNIT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
DeGroote's Student Experience team supports all students at the DeGroote School of Business - MBA, BCom, specialized graduate programs and PhD students. Our school's culture is captured by three values: The Recruitment and Admissions Officer works within the MBA Recruitment and Admissions team to support a strategic recruitment and admissions process, ensuring DeGroote achieves its targets and attracts the highest quality of student. The role is integral to shaping and promoting the DeGroote brand to a national audience.
This position will be based out of the Ron Joyce Centre in Burlington and will be in a hybrid format (working 3 days in the office and 2 days from home).
Responsible for attracting applicants to the University through a variety of centralized recruitment efforts, programs, and initiatives and for ensuring University enrolment targets are met by applying established admissions criteria to select qualified students from a diverse pool of secondary and post-secondary applicants. Delivers information to students at events as a means to promote the various faculties and specific programs within the University. Evaluate and assess applicant files and independently make admission decisions for undergraduate, domestic, and international students. Make independent admission decisions to admit or refuse applicants to University programs based on established prerequisites, University guidelines, and enrolment numbers.
Administer program enrolment from application to admission by monitoring and organizing applications, reviewing transcripts, and ranking applicants.
Review and evaluate applications to ensure academic requirements and pre-requisites have been met.
Partner with other departments in the University to finalize enrolments.
Document and provide feedback to senior staff regarding the target audience's perception of the University.
Attend and represent the University at recruitment events.
Remain current with frequent changes in all academic areas, programs, admission policies and procedures, electronic media and social networking.
Research, review, and analyze admissions criteria from national and international institutions.
Recommend changes to University admission policies and procedures that will assist the University to remain competitive with national and international educational institutions.
Inform prospective students and applicants of the application process, procedures, academic and program requirements, program suitability, and potential eligibility for admission.
Meet with applicants to determine their academic interests and requests including asking questions about their previous educational background, academic strengths, and long-term goals.
Provide information, answer questions, and discuss academic interests with applicants.
Deal with applicants who are not qualified for admission and explain the application process and offer viable alternatives without discouraging the applicant from attending university.
Ensure accuracy and uniformity of materials sent to applicants throughout the admission cycle by monitoring information including email communications
Document fraudulent applications, prepare and maintain a log of activity leading to charges of academic dishonesty.
Conduct analyses of post-secondary institutions through internet research, telephone, and email surveys with colleagues as a means to compare admission requirements and procedures ensuring best practices are known and implemented across all institutions.
Calculate domestic and international student grade point averages.
Exchange information with internal and external admissions staff to discuss and share information on various procedures, policies, and issues that are being addressed at other institutions.
Utilize and modify existing database queries to determine if files are complete and ready for review.
Update, verify, process, and input new student and applicant information as required.
Serve as an effective liaison between departments, educational institutions, alumni, and external contacts.
Update and maintain content on the department website.

Ensures adherence to quality standards and procedures for short-term staff.
ASSETS:
This role will influence and execute an annual recruiting and admissions strategy to achieve program enrollment targets. The successful candidate will be a strategic planner who demonstrates a strong knowledge of university recruitment and admissions and the Graduate marketplace.
The following assets are integral to success:
Proven public speaking, persuasive presentation and facilitation skills including experience in delivering presentations to diverse audiences.
Exceptional technical skills, including experience managing a CRM tool, using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and advanced Excel, and the ability to analyze and summarize complex data sets to make data-driven recommendations.
Knowledge of SLATE would be an asset
Demonstrated skills in student coaching and ability to deliver feedback and/or difficult messages.
Ability to adapt and be responsive to changes in an evolving domestic market.
Experience in managing web and social media tools is an asset
The incumbent will be a dynamic self-starter, who can work independently as well as lead projects with multiple stakeholders.
The position requires occasional domestic travel and travel may include areas not serviced by public transit.
