Personal Support Counsellor Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Personal Support Counsellor to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a contributing member of the Section, addressing other camper behaviour and negative actions when required;
- Report and document all incidents and/or accident involving campers supported through HOC’s online form submission pages;
- Assist fellow Counsellors and Section Heads with a day-to-day program plan for the section and the camper;
- Update and maintain a communication log highlighting the camper’s experience, to be provided to the Parents at the end of the session;
- The dynamic nature of summer camp demands each staff understand that additional duties may be assigned as required;
- Attend an online training webinar prior to the commencement of the employment period;
- Provide supervision to campers while at camp during meals, activities, free time, evening and overnight;
- Other duties as assigned;
- Complete a parent phone call with assigned camper at least 5 days in advance of the camper’s start date at camp;
- Adhere to HOC’s privacy and confidentiality policy;
- Adapt games and activities, where needed, to ensure full camper participation and encourage camp staff and cabin group input whenever possible;
- Allow campers to help plan their participation in daily activities;
- Refrain from discussions of the camper in from of them or in the presence of other campers;
- Use person-first language, emphasizing discussion of similarities rather than differences;
- Be open to feedback and to follow suggestions from HOC Staff regarding participation, integration and inclusion concerns.
Requirements:
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and positive;
- Must be able to work independently as part of a larger staff team;
- A minimum of 18 years old;
- Minimum of Bronze Cross swimming qualification (NLS preferred);
- Respect In Sport Certificate;
- Must be willing to take part in camp related activities outside the defined job description;
- Genuine interest in working with children with special needs;
- Experience teaching and communicating with children of varied ages and abilities. Specific camp experience an asset;
- Current certificate of Emergency First Aid and CPR.
