Our company is looking for a Wellness Counsellor to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides support for individuals take part in the program;
  • Provide aftercare to clients returning from treatment and maintain a link with the relevant treatment centres concerning client care and progress;
  • Participate in staff meetings;
  • To participate actively as a SFN representative in collaborative partner networks and in related community activities;
  • To identify client needs and access the proper resources to provide support to clients;
  • Manages and coordinates preventative drug and alcohol programs for the Gitsegukla Nation;
  • Allows for follow up programs for clients returning from treatment;
  • Facilitates health professional visits to program clients and interested community members;
  • Provides short-term counselling in crisis situations;
  • Promotes, monitors and maintains health, safety and security of the program;
  • Provides one to one, family and group counselling and refers clients to appropriate professionals;
  • Stimulates new programs related to drugs and alcohol abuse, such as support circles, Al-anon, A.A., N.A., sponsorships, etc;
  • Participate in SFN sponsored community events;
  • Some evening and weekend work will be necessary;
  • Screens and assesses client’s needs and why they are seeking assistance and services.

Requirements:

  • The ability to keep confidential documents;
  • Oath of Confidentiality;
  • Experience and knowledge of health promotion, community counselling, brief intervention;
  • Experience in mental health, childhood trauma, or addictions would be considered an asset;
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment;
  • Knowledge and experience in culturally appropriate programs and community-based service delivery;
  • Valid BC Driver’s License, a positive role model and the ability to pass a Criminal Records Check;
  • Effective time management;
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills, plus strong negotiation skills;
  • Ability to solve problems, make effective decisions, resolve conflicts and manage time effectively.
