Counsellor Job Description Template

Our company is looking for a Counsellor to join our team.


  • Provide appropriate counselling or psychotherapeutic intervention to client couples dealing with various personal issues;
  • Evaluate client needs and work with them to set goals and develop a strategy to achieve them;
  • Manage the administrative requirements as required by FMC.


  • Proven record of achievement in clinical counselling. Scope of practice must include clinical work with adolescent and young adult population;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written) and organizational skills;
  • Valid professional liability insurance coverage at a minimum of $2,000,000.00 during the whole term of awarded contract;
  • Ability to use different evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches;
  • A graduate degree (masters or doctorate) in the counselling professions (e.g. psychology, social work, etc);
  • Availability of at least five hours a week, including a minimum of two evenings;
  • Demonstrated initiative and strong skills in problem solving and decision making;
  • Criminal reference check for working with vulnerable individuals;
  • Role will involve unusual hours and schedules;
  • Theoretical and practical training in individual and group counselling;
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Master’s level degree;
  • Registration with a College under the Ontario’ Regulated Health Professions Act (1991);
  • Professional and personal references;
  • Experience in university or college setting is beneficial and strongly preferred.
