Director, Accounting (Toronto)

Responsibilities

• Oversee the accounting function for the project, including strategic financial decisions and everyday accounting activities.
• Direct month‑end processes, financial and management reporting, and cash management.
• Lead the development accounting team and support multiple projects at different phases within the development cycle.
• Serve as a member of the project leadership team, providing analytical support and recommendations on operational and strategic issues.
• Manage and support the accounting team in their daily tasks, focusing on accurate and timely accounting and financial reporting.
• Set up appropriate accounting policies and interpret, document, and implement accounting guidance to ensure correct treatment of business transactions.
• Contribute to the budgeting process, including cash re‑forecasting and operational forecasting.
• Assist with the analysis of acquisition and financing transactions and other special projects.
• Implement financial reporting and compliance requirements related to property operations.
• Initiate process changes to drive efficiencies through process review, automation, and effective IT solutions.
• Establish and maintain a strong internal control environment to ensure continuous compliance with regulatory requirements, IFRS, and applicable laws for financial and tax reporting.
• Manage the preparation of financial statements, including notes and disclosures.
• Provide timely and accurate analysis of forecasts, financial results, cash flows, and operating metrics.
• Plan and coordinate the external audit and tax compliance process.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years supervisory experience.
• CPA designation with strong IFRS and ASPE knowledge.
• Recent experience with construction/development accounting.
• Experience implementing management reporting and accounting systems, process improvement, and automation.
• Review of organizational legal documents and determination of potential accounting implications.
• Research and documentation of accounting guidance on complex accounting matters.
• Undergraduate degree in accounting, commerce, or business.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Experience with JDEdwards is a definite asset.
• Strong people‑manager with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships across all levels within and outside the organization.
• Independent self‑starter who works well in a team‑based environment.
• Excellent time‑management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities within structured deadlines.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $150,000–$175,000 (full‑time).

Compensation is determined by a range of factors, including relevant experience, total years of experience, industry experience, education, and professional designations.
