Part time Senior Accountant

Job Responsibility:

The Parallel Ag group is a group of independent crop input retailers serving growers in the Manitoba marketplace.

Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements of assigned business partners and for providing support to staff in recording of transactions.

Duties and Responsibilities include,

• Prepare timely financial statements that present fairly the financial position of assigned business partners.

• Maintain complete working papers, and necessary back-up documentation.

• Analyze and review financial statements for reasonableness. Ensure balances are correct and information is complete.

• Prepare year-end financial statements with supporting working papers and back-ups, ready for review by the outside accountants.

• Assist outside accountants during their review of year-end financial statements.

• Prepare financial analysis reports.

• Recommend internal control procedures.

• Provide accounting support to business partners.

• Monitor and review business partner financials for errors or discrepancies.

• Monitor and follow up on inventory count schedules and cut-off.

• Assist business partners with accounting system training and reporting.

• Respond to queries from government agencies.

Qualifications

• Post secondary education in Commerce/Business with a major in accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience with accounting and financial analysis in a computerized environment.

• Proficient in the preparation of monthly financial statements and maintenance of electronic working papers.

• Proficient in accounting and/or auditing and strong understanding of accounting principles;

• Ability to work within the budget time and meet deadlines.

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

This position is part time, flexible (estimated 80 hours/month), remote and offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Some travel within Manitoba may be required.
