About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Health & Safety Manager to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs within our growing product development organization. This role is critical to ensuring a safe and compliant environment while supporting the advancement of innovative technologies involving hydrogen, sodium hydroxide, and galvanic generator systems.
Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will play a key role in fostering a strong culture of safety, balancing occupational and product safety requirements, and supporting business growth through scalable safety practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain health & safety programs in compliance with Ontario regulations, as well as UL and CSA standards
- Conduct Pre-start Health and Safety Reviews (PSRs) for new and modified processes, particularly those involving hazardous materials and emerging technologies
- Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Program Management teams to embed safety into product design and development
- Perform safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments, focusing on battery technology, chemicals, and hazardous materials
- Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
- Provide employee training on safety procedures, hazardous materials handling, and emergency response
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities and external stakeholders
- Track, analyze, and report on safety performance metrics; drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Monitor changes in local, provincial, and federal safety legislation and ensure organizational compliance
- Support and oversee safety requirements for field demonstrations and offsite activities
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a P.Eng. designation (Ontario)
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in a health & safety role, ideally within clean technology or a product development environment
- Proven experience conducting Pre-start Health and Safety Reviews (PSRs)
- Strong working knowledge of Ontario health & safety regulations, UL, and CSA standards
- Expertise in managing chemical hazards, particularly hydrogen and caustic substances
- Solid understanding of electrical safety principles
- Ability to balance occupational safety with product safety requirements
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Professional certifications such as CRSP or CHSC are considered an asset

Work Environment & Requirements
- Must live in Sarnia or be willing to relocate to Sarnia
- You must be fully permitted to live and work in Canada
- Open working environment using desk/computer

- Travel and overtime may be required to support field activities and operational needs

Salary Range
