Work environment : The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is a special operating agency within the Department of National Defence (DND). We work to ensure the safety of mariners in Canadian waters and protect Canada’s marine environment. We support Canada’s economic growth through the safe and efficient movement of maritime trade. We help to ensure our country’s sovereignty and security through our presence in Canadian waters. The CCG proudly serves 243,000 kilometres of Canada’s vast and rugged coastline, the longest coastline of any given country, and is one of the few federal agencies that provides direct, front-line services 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Intent of the process : The intent of this process is to staff one (1) EN ENG 03 position in Parry Sound, ON or Sarnia, ON within the Marine and Civil Infrastructure unit on an indeterminate basis. A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions on a permanent or temporary basis within the Canadian Coast Guard in the Department of National Defense.

You need (essential for the job)

Education

Graduation with a degree from a recognised post‑secondary institution in civil engineering or some other engineering discipline relevant to the duties of the position.

Experience

• Experience in managing major contracts including construction or repair of civil infrastructure. Contracts valued at $100,000 or more with several distinct elements.
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment related to the maintenance of infrastructure. The candidate must have been responsible for at least two of the following:
  • engineering design calculations
  • construction drawings
  • writing of technical specifications and scopes of work
  • cost estimates
  • project management
• Experience in the life‑cycle management of civil infrastructure, including:
  • structural inspection of civil infrastructure
  • development and evaluation of engineering reports
  • providing operational, technical or maintenance advice to clients
• Experience using computer‑aided design software such as AutoCAD, Civil3D, Inventor, or SOLIDWORKS.

Knowledge

• Common practices pertaining to the management of civil infrastructure projects.
• Common practices pertaining to the structural analysis of towers and foundations.
• Common practices pertaining to the structural analysis of off‑shore civil infrastructure.

Abilities

• Recommend implementation options in support of infrastructure investment or rehabilitation initiatives.

Asset Occupational Certification

• Registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
• Formal training or certification in Project Management.

Asset Experience

• Design of towers or other telecommunication structures.
• Design of concrete foundations.
• Construction, rehabilitation, repair, or maintenance of harbour structures or off‑shore piers.
