BACKGROUND:
SCO is a growing and dynamic regional First Nation organization that represents 33 Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations and more than 92,000 citizens in what is now southern Manitoba. Established in 1999 by the Chiefs, SCO is mandated as an independent organization to protect, preserve, promote, and enhance First Nation peoples’ inherent rights, languages, customs, and traditions through the application and implementation of the spirit and intent of the Treaty-making process.
OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Director of Policy & Governance, the Program Coordinator supports the coordination and day-to-day operations of SCO’s Policy & Governance department. The role contributes to departmental reporting, scheduling, data tracking and analysis, and operational planning, while providing administrative support to ensure efficient and effective departmental operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Support the creation and implementation of departmental processes
· Assist in identifying department strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improvement
· Provide coordination and general administrative support to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of departmental priorities
· Prepare and maintain departmental reports, trackers, and documentation to support policy and governance initiatives
· Collect, analyze, and interpret data to support presentations, reporting, and decision-making
· Maintain and enhance Excel-based tracking systems to support data management and operational planning
· Coordinate and manage scheduling for departmental leadership, including meetings, briefings, and policy-related engagements
· Liaise with SCO departments, community leadership, Provincial and Federal partners, and other external stakeholders to support collaboration
· Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and operational discussions
· Develop high-quality presentations and visual materials using tools such as PowerPoint, Canva, Prezi, and Adobe
· Translate complex information into clear, concise, and accessible language for a variety of audiences
· Record meeting minutes and synthesize discussions into actionable items, tracking follow-ups and deliverables
· Plan and coordinate meetings and events, including booking venues, arranging catering, and processing honorariums and requisitions
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Project Management, Indigenous Studies, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
· Minimum three (3) years of experience in administrative coordination or program support roles
· Experience coordinating projects, large meetings, and events
· Experience with program reporting, documentation, and scheduling
· Experience working with multidisciplinary partners and stakeholders
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
· Proficiency using presentation and design tools such as PowerPoint, Canva, Adobe, and/or Prezi
· Knowledge of, or experience working with, First Nations communities, cultures, and governance
· Strong organizational, coordination, and time management skills
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and in plain language
· Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
· Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality
· Ability to speak Anishinaabe or Dakota is considered an asset
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
· Must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check
· A valid class 5 MB driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle for business travel
WAGE RANGE: $60,000 - $70,000 Annually
