Law Clerk – Immigration Law (Remote | Ontario)

We are a small, nimble boutique immigration law firm based in Toronto, led by a founder ranked among Canada’s top immigration lawyers. We are seeking an experienced Immigration Law Clerk to join our growing team.

This is a home-based position , open to candidates located anywhere in Ontario, offering meaningful work, excellent work-life balance, and the opportunity to be part of a highly respected practice.

Key Responsibilities

1. Case Preparation & Management

• Assist lawyers/authorized representatives with the preparation, organization, and submission of immigration applications, including:
• Work permits
• Visitor visas
• Permanent residence
• Citizenship applications
• Draft, review, and finalize forms, documents, and correspondence to ensure accuracy and compliance with Canadian immigration law
• Track, monitor, and manage application deadlines and supporting documentation

2. Client Interaction

• Communicate with clients via email, phone/video conferencing, and case management portals
• Collect and organize client information and documentation
• Provide timely, professional updates on case progress
• Respond to client inquiries with clarity and professionalism

3. Legal Research

• Conduct research on Canadian immigration laws, policies, and relevant case precedents as requested
• Stay informed of changes to immigration regulations and policies, with guidance from supervising counsel

4. Administrative Support

• Maintain well-organized electronic client files in compliance with confidentiality and data protection requirements
• Liaise with government bodies, including Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
• Schedule and return client calls as required
• Assist with the creation, maintenance, and updating of the firm’s precedent library

5. Compliance & Professional Standards

• Ensure all work complies with applicable Canadian legal frameworks and professional conduct standards
• Safeguard sensitive client information and adhere strictly to confidentiality protocols

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a law clerk in a Canadian immigration law firm
• Strong working knowledge of Canadian immigration processes and procedures
• Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary diploma
• The ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and escalate case issues to supervisor
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to proofread documents, draft fluent prose, and avoid grammatical mistakes
• Excellent computer skills, 90+ wpm typing
• Self-starter, disciplined self-motivated work ethic
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (required)
• Visto AI / Officio experience is a strong asset
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple files independently
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
