Principal Clinical Scientist (Somatic)

Applications are invited for the post of Principal Clinical Scientist to join the Somatic team within the Laboratory Genetics department, which forms part of the West of Scotland Centre for Genomic Medicine. The department provides a high-quality genetics service to the West of Scotland, population 2.7 million, and to the whole of Scotland through the Scottish Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine. Based at the state of the art Laboratory Medicine building at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, the Laboratory Genetics department is responsible for the testing of inherited and acquired (solid and haematological malignancy) genetic disease.

The post holder will provide scientific and operational leadership to the team of highly skilled Healthcare Scientists and Healthcare Science Practitioner Specialists producing high quality results and reports as part of the acquired cancer genetic testing service. They will support the day-to-day operation of the somatic team to ensure consistent and high quality service delivery, and lead on development and expansion of services. They will work within our team of >130 scientific and technical staff, alongside the other Principal Clinical Scientists, and under the direction of the Somatic Programme Manager.

The successful applicant will be a highly experienced HCPC registered Clinical Scientist, with a background working in a diagnostic genetics laboratory. They must demonstrate excellent leadership skills and experience in managing genetic services, as well as in depth knowledge of cancer genetic testing techniques, analysis and clinical pathways.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm, with one shorter day in line with the latest AfC terms and conditions (total 36h per week).
