The Aftercare Coordinator designs, implements, and oversees a safe, engaging, and fun after-school program for boys in Grades 3 to 6. This role focuses on balancing recreation, academic support, and social-emotional support and development. This is a part-time (3pm - 6pm daily) contract position within our Junior School commencing in late August 2026 for the start of the 2026.2027 school year.  

Position Responsibilities:

• Design and lead a balanced daily Aftercare programme for boys ages 8–12 that includes outdoor play, active games, creative arts, building, exploration, quiet activities, and opportunities to rest and recharge.

• Create a safe, joyful, and connected environment in which every student is known, cared for, and included.

• Build strong relationships with students utilizing responsive, developmentally appropriate approaches to foster cooperation, self-regulation, and a sense of belonging.

• Foster student voice and choice by inviting boys to help shape activities, routines, and areas of interest within the programme.

• Communicate warmly and professionally with families at pickup, sharing relevant updates and helping to maintain positive partnerships between home and school.

• Work closely with Junior School teachers, student support staff, and school leaders to understand student needs and ensure continuity of care.

• Maintain accurate attendance and dismissal records and ensure that all students are released safely to authorized adults.

• Coordinate snacks, materials, equipment, and programme supplies while following all allergy, health, and safety protocols.

• Oversee the respectful and organized use of school spaces, including classrooms, the gym, turf, tarmac, and outdoor areas.

• Follow all school policies, emergency procedures, incident-reporting requirements, and child-safeguarding practices.

• Model the professionalism, warmth, judgment, flexibility, and care as lived by all members of the RSGC community.

Requirements and Experience:

• Degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child and Youth Care (CYC), Education, Recreation Leadership, or a related field.

• Current member in good standing eligible with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) or the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE) is highly desirable.

• Minimum of 2–3 years of experience leading, teaching, or coordinating programs for school-aged children (specifically Grades 3–6 preferred).

• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C / AED certification (required prior to start date)

• Demonstrated experience managing group dynamics, conflict resolution, and behaviour management in a camp, school, or recreational setting.

• Experience working in an independent school environment or an all-boys setting is a strong asset.

• Strong understanding of the physical, social, and emotional developmental needs of boys at this age.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build quick rapport with boys, parents, and school faculty.

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills to balance structured activities with free play.

• Must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) completed within the last 6 months, in accordance with Ontario regulations for working with minors.

The salary range for this position is $23,000 - $30,000 and reflects the required experience and  qualifications for this role. Final compensation and total rewards will be determined based on  the successful candidate’s unique skill set and may vary from the listed range.

Eligibility to work in Canada and clearance of a Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Background check is required.
