FACULTY OF LAW

The Faculty of Law is committed to supporting students in their academic and professional development and in preparing for successful careers in the legal profession and related fields. The Career Services Officer plays an important operational and student-advising role within the Faculty's career services function.

What We Offer

Full-time | Continuing | Fredericton | On-Campus

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:15 am - 4:30 pm | 36.25 hours per week

Salary Range: $50,149- $62,686 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Senior Career Services Officer, the Career Services Officer supports career development services and student employment initiatives through one-on-one student advising and planning and executing student recruitment initiatives.

• Advise students through one-on-one sessions on prospective career opportunities and provide guidance on career resources, job search strategies and application processes.
• Assesses students' qualifications against expectations of various kinds of legal employers, relying on their knowledge of the legal profession and legal services market.
• Review students' resumes, cover letters, and application materials and make suggestions for improving them based on knowledge of legal job market and assessment of students' qualifications.
• Develop and host workshops and information sessions related to career readiness.
• Identify gaps in resources and career development education and create material/presentations to address this need.
• Refer students to external and internal services and programs.
• Work to build UNB Law's internship programs through outreach to prospective partners (e.g. legal clinics, government agencies, public interest advocacy organizations).
• Maintain relationships with UNB Law's existing internship partners, ensuring that programs are working effectively and adding value.
• Track student progress through internship placements through effective communication with employers and students. Ensure that employers and students understand assessments methods and that they are delivered on time.
• Develop and maintain system for ensuring that students and partners are aware of and can access internship opportunities.
• Coordinate internal student employment opportunities such as research assistantships, teaching assistantships, and experiential placements (e.g., Pro Bono Students Canada and similar initiatives).
• Support posting, application intake, and communication processes.
• Assist in matching students with opportunities and tracking placements.
• Liaise with faculty and program coordinators regarding internal hiring needs.
• Coordinate the logistics of on-campus interview and recruitment processes, including scheduling, room bookings, communications, and documentation.
• Manage employer and student registration processes for recruitment events.
• Maintain timelines, application tracking, and related administrative records.
• Provide logistical support for career fairs, information sessions, and recruitment programming.
• Maintain and update career services communication channels, including newsletters, email announcements, and online resources.
• Ensure job postings and career information are current and clearly presented.
• Assist with preparation of student-facing guides and materials.
• Maintain accurate records of student participation, employment outcomes, and program activities.
• Assist in compiling statistics and reports related to career services initiatives.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives through feedback collection and basic assessment activities.
• Support special projects and initiatives related to student success and career development.
• Perform other related duties as required.

What You Bring

• Undergraduate degree in any discipline is required.
• Familiarity with the legal services market or demonstrated ability to quickly develop an understanding of it.

Additional Strengths

• A law degree would be considered an asset but is not required.
• Experience in student advising, student services, or working with post-secondary students is an asset.
• Experience coordinating programs, events, or recruitment processes is considered beneficial.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong organizational ability and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong administrative and coordination skills.
• Sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Proficiency with standard office software and database systems.
• Demonstrated commitment to student service and inclusion.
