Senior Underwriter, Specialty Lines (Toronto)

About the role

A Senior Specialty Solutions Underwriter will develop expertise and deliver innovative solutions across a broad range of insurance products in various industry segments, from construction to farm and transportation. The role will contribute to Intact's growth beyond 24 billion in annual premiums and will be based within a dynamic, growth-focused team.

What you will do

• Accept, reject, endorse, renew or cancel policies following Intact underwriting guidelines and procedures, applicable laws and regulations and subject to authority level as specified by underwriting manager.
• Develop business opportunities and long-term relationships with broker partners by providing legendary service.
• Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.
• Answer inquiries and make recommendations to brokers and underwriters through verbal and written correspondence.
• Participate in broker visits, industry functions and marketing events to support broker relationship development.
• Review underwriting reports and make recommendations as required.
• Communicate changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines and new products.
• Support and mentor team members within Specialty Solutions as well as other divisions at Intact.

What you bring

• Minimum 5 years experience in specialty lines underwriting, including but not limited to corporate, financial, construction, technology and entertainment, liability, energy, property, agriculture, transportation and/or business development.
• Solutions-oriented with a proven analytical approach, sound judgment and effective complex risk management driving profitable growth.
• Builds professional, long-term relationships with brokers, customers and internal partners.
• Proactive communicator who identifies needs and negotiates tailored broker solutions.
• Manages multiple priorities and tight deadlines while maintaining quality under pressure.
• Demonstrates critical thinking, respects diverse perspectives and collaborates cross-functionally as an effective team contributor.
• Eligible to work in Canada; no Canadian work experience required.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range (35-hour workweek): 94,200 – 115,200 CAD.

• Annual bonus target: 12 percent of base salary, potential payout up to double the target.
