The role

Balance Sheet Management within Group Treasury, responsible for developing policies and a strategic framework for the bank’s Structural Interest Rate Risk (SIRR) and Structural Foreign Exchange Risk (SFER). The role involves managing dynamic exposures due to embedded optionality and customer behaviours, and acts as a central point of contact for developing and operationalising processes with stakeholders across Finance, Risk, Accounting policy, capital management, and hedge accounting.

The associate director reports to senior management and various Asset & Liability committees (Alco) and presents to senior management and Alco committees.

Responsibilities

• Work with internal systems and data to enhance the bank’s structural interest rate risk management framework, facilitating assessment of potential opportunities and risks.
• Maintain and enhance balance sheet reporting models to support hedging decisions.
• Research and develop tools to support hedging processes.
• Synthesize complex technical information and present high‑quality, impactful presentations for senior management and AlCOs.
• Represent the team as a subject‑matter expert on bank‑wide strategic initiatives with balance sheet implications.
• Participate in ad‑hoc projects related to assessing interest rate risk in the banking book and its impact across business lines and the bank’s bottom line.
• Interpret the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in day‑to‑day activities and decisions.
• Lead and drive a customer‑focused culture within the team, deepening client relationships and leveraging broader bank resources.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or Economics.
• CFA charter holder preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in a bank treasury, capital markets and/or market risk function.
• Strong proficiency in data management.
• Programming capability in Excel (VBA), Bloomberg, QRM, or SQL is highly desirable.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain relationships and constraints between risk management, margin optimisation, and accounting treatment.
• Expert understanding of banking book products, fixed income and interest rate derivatives, global markets, hedging strategies, and hedge accounting.
• Fluency with features and financial risks associated with trading and banking products.
• Superior analytical and quantitative skills.
• Self‑starter, proactive, and can take action with minimal supervision.
• Ability to stay organised and manage multiple deliverables.
• Attention to detail and focus on accuracy.
