Working within the System Operations Department and reporting to the Manager, System Operations, the successful candidate will assist the team in identifying and developing solutions to power system operational issues to ensure the safe, efficient and reliable real-time operation of AltaLink's transmission system.

Power System Operations Engineering- This involves performing and evaluating power system studies, undertaking system impact and risk management studies for maintenance and project integration activities, developing contingency plans and providing technical support to AltaLink's Control Centre.

Responsibilities:

The following activities will be performed under the guidance of technical staff in the area of System Operations Engineering:

• Assist with the development of power system models through retrieval and compilation of information from technical documents and data from various databases;
• Complete power system performance analysis and event logging;
• Assist with the retrieval of fault records;
• Contribute to the system impact studies and risk analysis by conducting power flow studies
• All candidates must demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars – one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.

Qualifications:

• An Electrical Engineering student who has completed two or more years of study and is enrolled in an internship program at a recognized University;
• Some understanding of electrical concepts related to power systems. Preference will also be given to candidates who have focused some studies on Power Systems;
• Working knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint;
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes;
• Superior organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage a wide variety of issues simultaneously;
• Strong analytical, risk assessment and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to work in a team environment and develop strong internal and external relationships.
• Proven track record of good attendance and job performance.
