Consultant - Public Health Early Years (Sydney)

Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Early Years, the Early Years Consultant provides advanced knowledge, leadership and coordination of public health workforce development in the area of the early years.

Responsibilities

• Work with the team and manager to strengthen skills, competencies and achievements among public health team members focused on the early years.
• Provide expert advice to support and coordinate consistent and quality practice across the zone.
• Offer guidance, coordination and direction to staff to ensure alignment with established standards of practice, operational requirements and scientific developments.
• Recommend quality initiatives and work practice changes or workforce distribution to optimize efficiency.
• Collaborate with public health staff, zone leadership, other NSHA consultants and leaders, local stakeholders and system and external partners to ensure consistent, effective and positive health outcomes for children aged 0‑5.
• Demonstrate commitment to equity, social justice and self‑determination to create supportive environments for the early years.
• Identify and monitor key indicators, and support knowledge exchange across the health system and other sectors.
• Monitor trends and gather local evidence daily and weekly to inform process and operational improvements to early years programming across the zone.
• Provide leadership and advanced knowledge in programs, policies, standards, models and strategies to promote healthy development and reduce health inequities in the early years.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in public health sciences, nutrition, health education and health promotion, nursing, early childhood or relevant field with 5‑7 years relevant experience.
• Masters in public health, or equivalent with 3‑5 years relevant experience.
• Equivalent combination of education and 7 years progressive leadership experience may be considered.
• Eligible for registration with a professional body as appropriate.
• Experience in planning, development and evaluation of public health programs, services and initiatives based on community assessments, data and best practice models for the early years.
• Demonstrated success building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support early years work.
• Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations including the NS Health Protection Act, NS Health Authorities Act, etc.
• Demonstrated proficiency in LEADS.
• High standards of ethics, integrity, respect, accountability and upholding the public interest, with ability to use them effectively in decision‑making.
• Leadership skills, including team building, conflict resolution, goal setting, coaching, mentoring, delegation and change‑leadership.

Position Information

• Hours: Permanent full‑time position; 75 hours biweekly.
• Travel: To various sites within Eastern Zone may be required based on operational needs.
• Compensation: $39.29 - $52.21 hourly.
