POSITION OVERVIEW:

HEAD OF TEACHING & LEARNING

The Head of Teaching & Learning is the academic and pedagogical leader for St. George's School of Montreal. This position is responsible for articulating, advancing, and embedding the School's progressive educational philosophy across all grade levels and disciplines, ensuring an integrated and cohesive approach to teaching and learning from Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Working in close collaboration with the Elementary and High School Principals and Leadership Team, the Head of Teaching & Learning provides strategic vision, pedagogical expertise, and instructional leadership to support high-quality, student-centred learning experiences that reflect the mission and values of the School.

  • Proven experience implementing research-informed practices at the classroom and system levels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & School-wide Alignment

  • Lead the development and implementation of a cohesive K-12 pedagogical strategy aligned with the School's mission and strategic plan, with particular attention to nurturing academic continuity into Grade 12 and supporting pathways beyond.
  • Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment by collaborating with campus Principals, the Coordinator of Teaching and Learning, Elementary School, the Curriculum and Studies Officer, Department Heads, Instructional Leaders, and faculty.
  • Promote a shared vision for progressive education that is understood and embraced across the school community.
  • Serve as a member of the Leadership Team and report regularly to the Board's Education Subcommittee.
  • Lead the School's engagement with CAIS Accreditation and related review processes.

Instructional Leadership & Professional Development

  • Design and lead a school-wide approach to professional learning, coaching, and teacher evaluation.
  • Build instructional leadership capacity across both campuses through mentorship, high-impact teaching strategies, and reflective practice.
  • Oversee systems of faculty growth, including professional development, summer institutes, learning communities, coaching, and structured evaluation processes.
  • Coordinate and support Instructional Leaders, Department Heads, and consultants to advance teaching and learning goals.
  • Manage and collaborate with key academic teams—including ES Instructional Leaders, Faculty Department Heads, and the Educational Leadership Team—to support alignment and instructional coherence across the School.

Curriculum & Program Development

  • Oversee the articulation and coherence of the K-12 curriculum to ensure intentional learning progression.
  • Lead the design of enrichment, learning support, and intervention programs that reflect a whole-child philosophy and address a broad range of student needs, backgrounds, and experiences.
  • Promote inclusive instructional practices that support varied learning profiles and foster engagement for students.

Research & Educational Innovation

  • Stay informed on current educational research and emerging best practices in curriculum, instruction, and inclusive approaches that support diverse learner needs.
  • Guide the introduction and evaluation of pedagogical initiatives that foster innovation and improvement.
  • Promote a school culture rooted in inquiry, collaboration, and evidence-informed practice.

Community Engagement & Communication

  • Serve as a key communicator of the School's educational vision and practices with students, staff, parents, and the broader community.
  • Foster meaningful relationships across campuses to build trust, shared understanding, and alignment.
  • Represent the School at professional forums and in matters related to Ministry regulations and accreditation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education (required); Master's or PhD in Education (strongly preferred).
  • Bilingualism (English and French).
  • Additional training in instructional leadership, coaching and/or change management (asset).

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience, ideally spanning both elementary and high school levels.
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience, including team supervision, leadership of academic initiatives, and responsibility for professional learning and program development.
  • Familiarity with Québec Ministry of Education requirements and CAIS Accreditation (asset).

Knowledge & Disposition

  • Strong grounding in progressive education and holistic approaches to student learning
  • Deep expertise in curriculum development, instructional strategies, and inclusive education.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead across grade levels and in complex, collaborative environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with a growth-oriented and empathetic leadership approach.

DIRECTEUR.TRICE DE L'ENSEIGNEMENT ET DE L'APPRENTISSAGE

Le directeur ou la directrice de l'enseignement et de l'apprentissage est le ou la leader scolaire et pédagogique de l'école St-Georges de Montréal. Cette personne est chargée de définir, de promouvoir et d'intégrer la philosophie éducative progressive de l'École à tous les niveaux et dans toutes les matières, en veillant à ce que l'enseignement et l'apprentissage soient abordés de manière intégrée et cohérente, de la maternelle à la 12e année.

Travaillant en étroite collaboration avec le directeur au primaire et la directrice au secondaire et l'équipe de direction, le ou la titulaire du poste apporte une vision stratégique, une expertise pédagogique et un leadership pédagogique afin de soutenir des expériences d'apprentissage de haute qualité qui sont centrées sur l'élève et fidèles à la mission et aux valeurs de l'École.

RESPONSABILITÉS PRINCIPALES

Leadership stratégique et alignement à l'échelle de l'École

  • Diriger l'élaboration et la mise en œuvre d'une stratégie pédagogique cohérente de la maternelle à 12e année, en lien avec la mission et le plan stratégique de l'École, en portant une attention particulière à la continuité des apprentissages jusqu'à la 12? année et à l'accompagnement des parcours postsecondaires ;
  • Assurer l'alignement vertical et horizontal du curriculum, de l'enseignement et de l'évaluation en collaborant avec les directions de campus, la coordination de l'enseignement et de l'apprentissage au primaire, le responsable des programmes et des études, les responsables de département, les responsables pédagogiques et le corps professoral ;
  • Promouvoir une vision commune de l'éducation progressive, partagée et adoptée par l'ensemble de la communauté scolaire ;
  • Faire partie de l'équipe de direction et rendre compte au sous-comité de l'éducation du conseil ;
  • Diriger la participation de l'École au processus d'accréditation CAIS et aux processus d'évaluation connexes.

Leadership pédagogique et développement professionnel

  • Concevoir et diriger une approche globale de l'École en matière d'apprentissage professionnel, d'accompagnement pédagogique et d'évaluation du personnel enseignant ;
  • Renforcer les capacités de leadership pédagogique sur les deux campus grâce au mentorat, à des stratégies d'enseignement à fort impact et à une pratique réflexive ;
  • Superviser les mécanismes de développement du personnel enseignant, nommément la formation continue, les instituts d'été, les communautés d'apprentissage, le coaching et les processus d'évaluation structurés ;
  • Coordonner et soutenir les responsables pédagogiques et de département et les consultants.es afin de faire progresser les objectifs en matière d'enseignement et d'apprentissage.
  • Gérer et collaborer avec les principales équipes pédagogiques — notamment les responsables du primaire, les responsables de département et l'équipe de leadership pédagogique — afin d'assurer l'alignement et la cohérence des pratiques à l'échelle de l'École.

Développement du curriculum et des programmes

  • Superviser l'articulation et la cohérence du curriculum de la maternelle à la 12? année afin d'assurer une progression délibérée des apprentissages ;
  • Diriger la conception de programmes d'enrichissement, de soutien à l'apprentissage et d'intervention qui reflètent une approche éducative centrée sur l'élève dans sa globalité et qui répondent à une grande diversité de besoins, de parcours et d'expériences ;
  • Promouvoir des pratiques pédagogiques inclusives qui soutiennent des profils d'apprentissage variés et favorisent l'engagement des élèves ;
  • Recherche et innovation pédagogique ;
  • Se tenir au courant des recherches actuelles en matière d'éducation et des meilleures pratiques émergentes sur le plan de programmes, d'enseignement et d'approches inclusives qui répondent aux besoins diversifiés des apprenants.es ;
  • Piloter l'évaluation d'initiatives pédagogiques innovantes et évolutives. ;
  • Promouvoir une culture scolaire fondée sur la recherche, la collaboration et des pratiques éclairées par des données probantes.

Mobilisation de la communauté et communication

  • Agir comme porte-parole clé de la vision éducative et des pratiques pédagogiques de l'École auprès des élèves, du personnel, des familles et de la communauté élargie ;
  • Favoriser des relations significatives entre les campus afin de renforcer la confiance, la compréhension commune et l'harmonisation ;
  • Représenter l'École au sein des instances professionnelles ainsi que dans les dossiers liés aux règlements ministériels et aux processus d'agrément.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formation et diplômes

  • Baccalauréat en éducation (obligatoire) ; maîtrise ou doctorat en éducation (fortement souhaité) ;
  • Bilinguisme (anglais et français) ;
  • Formation complémentaire en leadership pédagogique, en accompagnement professionnel (coaching) et/ou en gestion du changement (atout).

Expérience

  • Minimum de 5 années d'expérience en enseignement, idéalement à la fois au primaire et au secondaire ;
  • Minimum de 5 années d'expérience en gestion, incluant la supervision d'équipes, la direction d'initiatives pédagogiques et la responsabilité du développement professionnel et de la conception de programmes ;
  • Connaissance des exigences du ministère de l'Éducation du Québec et de l'accréditation CAIS (un atout).

Connaissances et aptitudes

  • Solide ancrage dans l'éducation progressive et les approches holistiques de l'apprentissage des élèves ;
  • Expertise approfondie dans l'élaboration de programmes d'études, les stratégies pédagogiques et l'éducation inclusive ;
  • Capacité avérée à exercer un leadership à tous les niveaux scolaires dans des environnements complexes et collaboratifs ;
  • Excellentes compétences interpersonnelles, communicationnelles et organisationnelles, avec une approche du leadership axée sur la croissance et empreinte d'empathie.
