This position works in the Police - Administration organizational unit. This is clerical work of moderate complexity in ensuring for the provision of an effective office support and volunteer coordination service in a community police office. An incumbent of this class recruits, interviews, recommends selection, schedules and motivates volunteers and organizes and implements crime prevention activities utilizing volunteers; organizes and implements community-based crime prevention activities such as bike and foot patrols, speed watch, graffiti watch, business watch and safety presentations. An incumbent also prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports; liaises with external contacts to promote the office and solicit funding; provides information and assistance to a variety of internal and external contacts; upon approval implements new and improved systems and procedures; provides office support services to the RCMP Officer In Charge; performs duties of the RCMP Front Counter Clerk; and performs a variety of related clerical tasks. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised in most aspects of the work, with the more complex problems and matters of policy referred to a supervisor or to an RCMP Officer. Work performance is reviewed on the basis of the effectiveness of office and volunteer coordination services provided. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by volunteer management and commercial courses plus sound related experience including experience as a front counter clerk in a police detachment or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the functions, regulations, rules and procedures governing the department operations and activities. Sound knowledge of the methods and practices used in motivating, directing, and assessing volunteers. Working knowledge of the needs of various related community groups, businesses, industries and individuals; to develop and implement volunteer activities, including the ability to recruit, interview, train, motivate and evaluate volunteers; to ensure adequate coverage for the office; to deal effectively with internal and external contacts and to apply sound judgement and considerable initiative; to seek proactive solutions to solve problems; to recommend, review, develop and upon approval, implement new or improved systems and procedures; to provide front counter services; and to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to give presentations. Experience using CPIC, PIRS/OSR and PRIME and applicable software is considered an asset. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required as is the ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced RCMP Security Clearance.

Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM (Mutual Agreement between Monday to Sunday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
