Location: Hybrid 2x/week across all offices (Toronto, Mississauga, Burlington, Guelph, Calgary, Regina, Quebec, Montreal)
Pay range : $47-$59 per hour
Hours: 37.5 hours/wk
Length: 6 month contract, extension likely
Insight Global is looking for an Insurance-focused Business Analyst to support a data modernization initiative, helping transition a Climate Data Environment from Azure Synapse to Databricks. This individual will work closely with underwriting and claims SMEs to document and improve complex insurance business rules, translating them into clear data requirements that can be implemented by engineering teams.
Day to Day:
- Gather and refine requirements by working directly with underwriters, claims, and other SMEs to understand insurance policies and business rules
- Analyze and document complex business rules (e.g., deductibles, limits, reinsurance, risk attributes) for use in data pipelines and modeling
- Translate business requirements into clear, structured specifications that can be consumed by data engineering teams
- Maintain detailed documentation of data logic, datasets, and business rules, often using Excel and other documentation tools
- Perform light SQL querying and data analysis to validate outputs and support data extraction from Synapse/Databricks
- Support the migration of climate data workflows from Azure Synapse to Databricks, ensuring functionality and accuracy are maintained
- Identify opportunities to improve existing processes and business logic, not just document them
- Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring alignment throughout the modernization effort
Must Haves:
- 5+ years as a Business Analyst
- Insurance industry experience and expertise
- Experience in database documentation datasets and creating databases/schemas
- Good communication skills - will be working directly with SME from underwriting and claims department
- Ability to do simple extraction from Azure Synapse or Databricks
Plusses:
- Expertise of creating schemas and databases
- BA that has worked closely with corporate actuarial – they often have a edge as they understand reinsurance and these complex concepts
- French
