Staff Nurse - Surgery

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse who is keen to develop their practice and experience within our Upper GI / General Surgery nursing team within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with an interest in acute surgical nursing to join our team. Previous experience in the acute/surgical setting is desired but not essential. The post-holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, delivering and evaluating of a high standard of patient centred care and have a commitment to continuing personal development. There will be opportunities offered for development within the surgical unit.

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Location based in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
• Permanent Contract
• Full-time position (36 hours per week)
• The shift pattern for this post are Monday - Sunday

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for patients to ensure delivery of a high standard of care.
• Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives /carers and other members of the MDT to ensure that appropriate information is shared and patient needs are met.
• Work within the defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the Division / Department and report outcomes to senior nursing staff to enable monitoring of standards of care.
• Supervise / mentor less experienced staff / students who are providing care to patients and act as a source of advise to ensure their educational needs are met
• Organise own workload to ensure that the interests of patients / clients are met
• Responsible for maintaining patients records within agreed standards
• Maintain departmental stock levels, through ordering of stores, ensuring the economic use of all resources
• Develop the role by using evidence-based practice and continuously improving own knowledge following Revalidation requirements, and through Personal Development Plans / CPD.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• Registered nurse on the NMC register
• Degree or equivalent experience
• Experience in Urology nursing is desirable but not essential.
• Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description
