Staff Nurse - National Spinal Unit

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team within the Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in the Rehabilitation Ward. As an essential part of the national spinal injuries team, you will deliver high-quality, clinically effective patient care at all times.

You will manage a varied caseload focusing on patients in the rehabilitation phase of spinal injury, helping you build your skills and experience. You will work within a close-knit, highly skilled multidisciplinary team, where strong collaboration and mutual respect are key. While there is opportunity to support care in the High Dependency Ward during the acute stage, this post is primarily based in the rehabilitation ward.

The role involves working across Edenhall Ward (12-bed Spinal High Dependency) and Philipshill Ward (32-bed Spinal Injuries Rehabilitation Ward with an integrated High Acuity Respiratory Care Unit).

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Location - Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit
• Ward Base - Rehabilitation Ward (Philipshill) / Spinal High Dependency (Edenhall Ward), with potential rotation opportunities within spinal injuries and other acute specialities
• Work Pattern - Monday to Friday
• 12-hour shifts available
• Flexibility to work 7.5-hour shifts
• 24/7 service

There is also an opportunity to rotate throughout spinal injuries and other acute areas to further develop skills.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a motivated and compassionate registered nurse to join our specialist team, where you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals with spinal injuries. In this rewarding post, you will support patients throughout their rehabilitation journey, while also having opportunities to contribute to care during the acute and high dependency stages. You will work closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team, building strong professional relationships to ensure the best outcomes for patients.

This role offers excellent opportunities to broaden your clinical experience through rotational working across spinal injuries and other acute specialities. You will also be part of an innovative environment, contributing to forward-thinking practices such as Digital Clinical Notes. We are seeking individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous professional development, with a genuine passion for understanding and meeting the complex needs of this patient group.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• Registered Nurse on the NMC register (part 1, 7 &12)
• Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description
