Medical Laboratory Technician

to join our team in

Toronto, Ontario . This role plays a vital part in patient care and our business, allowing you to make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives. Status

Full Time

Schedule Wednesday to Sunday, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Additional Requirements

Must be familiar and comfortable with APX and IntrLab systems.

Must have the ability to problem‑solve and resolve issues surrounding specimen inquiries (queries, pending, etc).

Must have current Sample Management experience including IOM, Trackmaster. Preference will be given to someone with Beckmann Coulter Automate experience.

Must demonstrate a good understanding of Quality Assurance and be able to apply this knowledge at the appropriate time to ensure good quality results.

Must understand pre‑analytical procedures including specimen receipt, proper handling, and proper preparation in relation to Quality Assurance.

Responsibilities

Carry out a diverse range of work activities; prioritize and handle duties with accuracy and efficiency to provide quality results.

Demonstrate knowledge of specimen handling requirements and prioritize specimens and results following LifeLabs procedures.

Enter data for specimens, while triaging testing as appropriate.

Perform manual and automated testing in accordance with LifeLabs procedures under the direct supervision of a medical laboratory technologist.

Perform procedures required to address Quality Assurance indicators as defined, consulting with resources where necessary.

Identify incidents and non‑conformances; elevate as appropriate.

Conduct and record instrument/equipment maintenance at defined intervals.\

Prepare and utilize reagents and controls using defined procedures.

Ensure confidentiality of patient information.

Monitor and maintain adequate amounts and proper usage of laboratory supplies.

Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.

Handle bio‑hazardous and routine garbage in compliance with Environment, Health and Safety procedures.

Work in a manner that protects one’s health and safety as well as the safety of co‑workers and others, consistent with the law and safe work practices established by LifeLabs.

Qualifications

High School diploma.

WHMIS training.

Registered Laboratory Assistant (OSMT) optional.

Previous laboratory experience preferred (Chemistry).

Lab environment experience: may handle biohazardous materials and chemicals/reagents.
