Intermediate Mining / Civil Field Technologist (Whitehorse)

Stantec is searching for an experienced Mining/Civil Field Technologist to support operations at active mine sites. This is a non‑exempt position; overtime will be remunerated per provincial employment regulations. Under the supervision of the Operations Support Manager, the candidate will complete operations maintenance, surveillance monitoring, and surface stability tasks for earthen structures and civil earthwork projects. Work is primarily field‑based with occasional office rotations. Schedules will involve frequent 12‑hour shifts (day/night) and travel to remote locations, including Northern Canada. Travel hours and expenses are covered only from approved locations (Calgary, Vancouver, Saskatoon, Edmonton). Key Responsibilities

Participate in and follow site‑specific HSS&E policies with the goal of achieving zero workplace incidents Attend daily tailgate meetings Identify and report hazards and unsafe conditions, seeking to improve safety Monitor geotechnical parameters to provide quality control per design and sampling/testing specifications Complete advanced soil sampling and compaction testing using a portable nuclear gauge Interpret design and IFC drawings, material and construction specifications Store, transport, and maintain nuclear densometers Report on technical construction monitoring observations and results, providing guidance during construction Adhere to quality control, documentation, and data management procedures Contribute to standardized procedures and policies, and to shared goals and objectives Troubleshoot technical issues in the field to consistently deliver high quality results Operate light vehicles (4x4 pickups) and/or all‑terrain vehicles to access construction areas Identify and engage with key stakeholders to gather information Capabilities and Credentials

Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with current Driver’s Abstract Standard First Aid Level C with AED, CSTS, and H2S Alive certification Working knowledge of geotechnical material testing equipment and soil sampling Understanding of radiation safety, policies, and procedures Ability to work in all weather conditions, including the Canadian Arctic, extreme cold and heat Acceptance of exposure to wildlife, travel delays, and prolonged hours of darkness during winter months Pre‑access drug and alcohol testing and criminal background check required Education and Experience

Minimum Post‑Secondary Technical Diploma in geological, geotechnical, civil or mining disciplines Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience; mine driving considered an asset Professional designation with ASET (Alberta) or ASTTBC (BC) considered an asset Prior experience working in Northern Canada considered an asset Familiarity with construction equipment an asset Ability to read design drawings an asset Physical Requirements

Energized Pay Range: Lower Mainland – BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario – $72,300.00 – $104,800.00 annually. Final compensation is based on education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Bonus eligibility may apply.
