Business Development Intern

Job Responsibility:

Rural Impact Canada is a leading development agency focusing on increasing capacity for small and rural municipalities with the overall goal of building affordable housing. Rural Impact Canada supports sustainable and diverse growth in small and rural municipalities across Canada by delivering solutions to their common complex challenges. Our programs primarily focus on water and wastewater infrastructure development and alternative approaches that enable new development opportunities.

The intern will be working in our program delivery team, supporting the Business Development Manager in making strategic partnerships, working with government stakeholders and researching various topics.

Rural Impact Canada is looking to recruit 1 intern to support our Business Development team for the term May - August 2024 based at our office at 150 Pretoria St. in Ottawa. Work will be full time hybrid, with the expectation of 3 days in office per week. 40 hr/week. Please submit a resume and short cover letter through the indeed portal.

Essential Job Functions

• Researching Municipal Service Corporations Across Canada:
• Conducting in-depth research on Municipal Service Corporations (MSCs), including their governance structures, funding models, regulatory frameworks, and best practices. Analyzing case studies to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for small and rural municipalities.
• Writing, Editing, and Disseminating Policy Briefs:

Developing well-researched policy briefs on key issues affecting rural infrastructure and development. Ensuring clarity, accuracy, and relevance by integrating stakeholder feedback and aligning content with Rural Impact Canada's objectives. Managing the dissemination of policy briefs to policymakers, municipal leaders, and other relevant audiences.

• Creating Summary Reports and Documentation:

Preparing concise and comprehensive reports on topics relevant to municipal governance, infrastructure development, and alternative service delivery models. Synthesizing complex information into accessible formats for diverse stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and industry professionals.Assisting with various organizational needs, including program development, stakeholder engagement, event coordination, and administrative tasks. Contributing to strategic initiatives that enhance the impact of Rural Impact Canada's programs and advocacy efforts.

Education and Experience

• Supporting Essential Functions of Rural Impact Canada:

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate / graduate degree in Economics, Political Science or similar.
• English Essential - must be able to fluently conduct business in English
• Experience producing reports or articles related to economic, social, labour market or learning subjects.
• Experience in municipal development an asset
• Experience working in a planning office an asset
• Experience working in program delivery an asset

Compensation and Benefits

• Competitive salary of $26/hr
