Estimation Team Lead

Role Overview

The Senior Estimation Team Lead is responsible for leading, coordinating, and mentoring a team of 5–7 estimators within the Buildings Division. Reporting directly to the Preconstruction Manager/Director, this role ensures the successful completion of detailed, accurate cost estimates across a range of building projects, including commercial, institutional, residential, healthcare, and public facilities. The successful candidate will combine strong technical acumen with proven leadership and communication skills to drive performance, collaboration, and consistency within the estimation function.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the estimation team throughout the full preconstruction cycle, ensuring accurate and timely completion of all estimates and cost analyses.
• Oversee the preparation of conceptual, schematic, design development, and detailed estimates in coordination with project and design teams.
• Maintain close communication with the Preconstruction Manager/Director to align estimating strategy, resource allocation, and project prioritization.
• Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to identify risks, opportunities, and scope gaps.
• Ensure estimates are developed using standardized processes, templates, and cost databases to promote accuracy and consistency.
• Drive collaboration among cross-functional groups including operations, project management, and business development to support competitive and strategic bids.
• Participate in tender reviews, bid validations, and post-tender debriefs to assess performance and drive continuous improvement.
• Provide technical guidance and support to team members on cost breakdowns, trade pricing, and value engineering opportunities.
• Leverage estimating software tools, including Sage and Destini, to maintain data integrity and enhance team productivity.

Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in construction estimating within the buildings sector, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, means, and cost structures within commercial, institutional, and residential building projects.
• Proficiency with estimation software such as Sage and Destini, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
• Exceptional organizational and analytical capabilities with meticulous attention to detail.
• Proven ability to foster teamwork and effective communication within a high-performing group environment.
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines in a dynamic preconstruction setting.

Length: Permanent

Salary Range: $150,000-$190,000

Location: Vancouver office
