Job SummaryReporting to the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting with the planning, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of a nationally competitive Women's Soccer program at Queen's University. Working collaboratively with the Head Coach and members of Athletics & Recreation, the incumbent supports the delivery of an exceptional student-athlete experience by contributing to all aspects of program development, including coaching, student-athlete development, recruitment, operations, and community engagement. The Assistant Coach contributes to the pursuit of competitive excellence while fostering an environment that supports the holistic development and success of every student-athlete. In order to address the unique needs and concerns of equity-deserving communities, this opportunity is open only to qualified individuals who self-identify as a Woman. This position supports the development of Women in coaching and is supported by specific funding to increase access for Women to high performance coaching roles. This initiative follows Queen's University Targeted Hiring Policy and the provisions of a Special Program as outlined by the Ontario Human Rights Special programs | Ontario Human Rights Commission As a member of the High Performance Sport unit, the Assistant Coach collaborates with integrated support staff to promote competitive excellence, academic achievement, student well-being, leadership development, and personal growth. In addition to sport-specific responsibilities, the Assistant Coach actively participates in departmental initiatives, special projects, and community engagement opportunities that strengthen the Women's Soccer program and enhance the visibility and reputation of Queen's University. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Coaching & Student-Athlete Development
• Promotes a culture of inclusion that reflects the values of Athletics & Recreation and Queen's University, with a demonstrated commitment to IEDIAA.
• Assists with the planning, implementation and evaluation of all aspects of a nationally competitive varsity Women's Soccer program, including athlete identification and selection, individual and team development, annual training and competition planning, practice preparation and delivery, competition management, technical and tactical instruction, performance analysis and ongoing program evaluation.
• Assists in the implementation of a comprehensive student-athlete recruitment and retention strategy.
• Assists in creating an environment that supports the holistic development of student-athletes by promoting academic achievement, leadership development, personal growth, well-being and competitive excellence.
• Collaborates with Athletics & Recreation staff and integrated support services to provide an exceptional student-athlete experience.
• Maintains regular communication with student-athletes and contributes to clear expectations, performance standards, accountability and a positive team culture.
• Assists in the ongoing evaluation of program performance through athlete feedback, performance data, video analysis and continuous improvement practices.
• Assists in ensuring that training sessions, competitions and team activities are conducted safely and in accordance with University, OUA, U SPORTS.
• Assists with fundraising initiatives, alumni engagement activities, Qcamps, clinics and other program initiatives.
• Performs other coaching-related duties as assigned by the Head Coach. Program Operations & Administration
• Assists with the day-to-day operations of the Women's Soccer program.
• Coordinates and assists with team travel, competition scheduling, facility bookings, equipment management, inventory control and other logistical requirements.
• Assists with the preparation and management of program budgets, purchasing, expense reconciliation and financial processes in accordance with University policies.
• Assists with the administration of recruitment, admissions, scholarships, eligibility and roster management in accordance with University, OUA and U SPORTS regulations.
• Maintains accurate program records and assists with reports, correspondence and administrative documentation.
• Assists in implementing risk management practices and operational procedures.
• Participates in departmental meetings, professional development opportunities and mandatory training.
• Assists with camps, clinics and other revenue-generating initiatives.
• Performs other operational and administrative duties as assigned. Department Leadership, Student-Athlete Experience & Community Engagement
The Assistant Coach is an integral member of Athletics & Recreation and contributes to the strategic priorities and overall success of the department.
• Supports departmental initiatives, special projects and strategic priorities that enhance the student-athlete experience.
• Assists in the development and delivery of initiatives that enhance the overall student-athlete experience, including leadership development, academic success, health and well-being, career readiness, community engagement and personal growth.
• Contributes to department-wide initiatives including student-athlete orientation, leadership development programs, educational programming, recognition events and other initiatives that foster belonging, engagement and student success.
• Represents Queen's University and the Women's Soccer program through community outreach, public appearances, Qcamps, clinics, school visits, youth sport organizations, campus initiatives and community partnerships.
• Assists in building and maintaining positive relationships with community partners, local sport organizations and prospective student-athletes and families.
• Promotes the mission, vision and values of Queen's Athletics & Recreation while serving as a positive ambassador for the University.
• Performs other departmental duties and special projects as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must self-identify as a woman and have lived experience as a woman.
• University degree in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Appropriate NCCP certification or the ability to obtain within an established timeframe.
• Current Safe Sport, First Aid/CPR and other certifications required by the University, OUA, U SPORTS or the applicable National Sport Organization.
• Experience coaching in a high-performance, collegiate, university, provincial, national or equivalent competitive environment.
• Experience in athlete recruitment, development and long-term athlete development principles.
• Satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
• Valid Province of Ontario Class G driver’s license required.
• Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience. SPECIAL SKILLS:
• Knowledge of University, OUA, U SPORTS and National Sport Organization rules and regulations.
• Strong organizational, communication and administrative skills.
• Experience using technology and performance analysis tools to support athlete and program development.
• Demonstrated commitment to student-centred coaching and an exceptional student-athlete experience.
• Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, colleagues and community partners.
• Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, sound judgment and commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and belonging. DECISION MAKING:

• Athlete development principles, skill progression, on/off season training and conditioning.
• Must become knowledgeable in the OUA and U SPORTS rules that govern the sport
• programs around recruiting, athletic scholarship, eligibility compliance rules.
• Setting and monitoring individual/team goals, expectations, conduct, and discipline.
• Decision on prioritizing one’s own duties and responsibilities.
• Must be able to act in the absence of the head coach.
