About the Opportunity
A practice with a significant Indigenous law group is seeking a lawyer to support Indigenous governments and organizations on governance self-government and institution-building matters.
Key Responsibilities
Advise Indigenous governments and organizations on governance structures and self-government arrangements
Draft constitutions laws policies and governance agreements
Support negotiations related to self-government and jurisdictional matters
Build long-term relationships with Indigenous community clients
Collaborate with colleagues across related practice areas (lands resources agreements)
Qualifications
Called to the Bar in Ontario or British Columbia in good standing
Experience in Indigenous law governance or a closely related field
Genuine interest in and sensitivity to working with Indigenous communities
Strong drafting and negotiation skills
Willingness to travel to community meetings as required
