Student Events Coordinator

The Student Events Coordinator (SEC) is an entry-level position, working in a team environment as part of the Student Events Unit (SEU) where the SEC is responsible for enhancing student life and creating campus community through a variety of programming initiatives. The SEC will primarily focus on logistical and promotional aspects of Students’ Union events (UASUevents). The SEC will report to the Manager, Programming. UASUevents is currently hiring for 3 SECs in this position. However, the number of positions is subject to change. These staff members will be individually responsible for Campus Cup, Antifreeze, or UASUevents’ Regular and Partnered Programming, while taking on further responsibilities within all aspects of the UASUevents portfolio.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist in the planning, implementation, marketing, and recruitment of Students’ Union programming and special events including, but not limited to: Week of Welcome, New Student Orientation, Campus Cup, AntiFreeze, Movie Nights, SUBstage Sessions, Night at the Horrorwitz, Last Class Bash, Trivia Nights, Karaoke, Music Bingo and other events hosted by or in collaboration with UASUevents


2. Be responsible for aspects of event management of various events, including: logistics, volunteer management, promotions, and same-day coordination


3. Be responsible for partnership development and relationship maintenance for event success


4. Support other SEU staff members in their responsibilities, as needed to ensure the success of the entire UASUevents portfolio


5. Be responsible for communication and major campaigns directed toward students through a variety of forms (Websites, Email Lists, Social Media, Marketing Projects)


6. Develop and maintain the volunteer group Events Crew. Work within guidelines and recommendations related to volunteer management as set by the organization


7. Manage digital assets including the UASUevents Network and digital media projects (still images, videos) for UASUevents


8. Submit regular reports including monthly reports and project reports


9. Create and update a transition manual for the position


10. Train within the Horowitz Events Centre in a variety of event roles


11. Perform other job-related duties as required by the Manager of Programming or the Senior Manager, Student Events and Services
    

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be registered as an undergraduate student at the University of Alberta during the term of employment, and must be a Students’ Union member.


• Ability to work independently and as a contributing member of a team.


• Ability and willingness to work with people in a respectful, diplomatic and credible manner.


• Computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suites applications, are a requirement. Experience with Mac operating systems, and Adobe Creative Cloud (Lightroom, Illustrator, and Photoshop) will be considered an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• This is a 12 Month Contract - May 1st, 2026 to April 30th, 2027


• 37.5 hours per week May - August, 25 hours per week September - April


• Willingness and ability to work varying hours – including weekends and evenings.
