Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking a strong people-focused leader for the Area Works Supervisor role in Morden, MB. This role is responsible for leading and supporting maintenance crews, coordinating year-round road operations, and responding to road related emergencies to keep Manitoba’s highways safe and reliable. The Area Works Supervisor provides frontline leadership for highway maintenance operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable road services.
- Lead and supervise maintenance crews and assign staff, equipment, and resources
- Coordinate year round road maintenance activities to meet service standards
- Monitor road conditions and direct summer and winter operations
- Respond to road related emergencies to protect public and worker safety
- Ensure compliance with safety, operational, and departmental requirements

Essential
- Extensive experience in highway maintenance operations.
- Experience operating commonly used highway maintenance equipment.
- Supervisory experience, including oversight of staff and the organization of labour, equipment, and materials to carry out assigned work activities.
- Knowledge of the materials, methods, and tools used in the maintenance of highways, roads, and related facilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to maintenance operations, including but not limited to the Highway Traffic Act, departmental policies and procedures, the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and occupational health and risk management.
- Experience in human resource management, including recruitment, training, and development, coaching, labour relations, mentoring, and conflict resolution.
- Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact professionally and courteously with department personnel, landowners, the public, law enforcement personnel, contractors, and other community partners.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
- Effective written communication skills.
- Experience with computer applications and software, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and web-based applications or similar applications.
Desired
- Experience working with a Maintenance Management System (MMS).
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5F driver’s licence with no restrictions
- Must be able to work extended hours, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays, as required
- Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting or carrying up to 25 kg; walking, sitting, or standing for prolonged periods; climbing stairs and ladders; kneeling, twisting, and bending; operating vehicles and equipment; and working in environments with exposure to dust or pollen, irritating vegetation, and chemicals or fumes
- Must be able to respond to work within 30 minutes of being called
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions, including exposure to extreme heat and cold
