Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Professional Practice and Nursing Development, you will provide nursing clinical practice expertise with a patient-centered & evidence-informed focus to support nursing excellence corporately. In a key strategic and clinical practice leadership role, the Clinical Practice Supervisor (CPS) provides leadership, direction, and professional oversight to a dynamic staff team across all sites working closely with the programs, directors, managers and physicians. As an integral member of the Nursing Professional Practice leadership team, the CPS is an innovative clinical expert with leadership, clinical care and academic responsibilities. The Clinical Practice Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and supervising clinical and professional practice and developing and supporting professional expertise in patient care by providing leadership and consultation, acting as a resource for staff, mentoring and coaching, monitoring performance, ensuring quality staff educational programs along with manager on-call responsibilities. With a focus on quality and patient safety, the CPS ensures that the daily delivery of services is provided according to the highest professional practice standards and regulatory requirements and that all aspects of services are fully integrated to meet the needs of those we serve. The CPS, in consultation with managers, directors and other practice leaders, works closely with their team to: develop and integrate professional standards, ensure integration of collaborative, patient-centred care into daily practice, facilitate professional involvement in quality, education and research initiatives, align professional goals with the strategic directions of St. Joes, College of Nurses, and their profession, promote the profession with external partners, and acts as a resource to programs and the organization for clinical practice matters involving the professions. In addition the CPS will support the coordination and success of Ministry funded Nursing initiatives including Clinical Externs, Supervised Practice Experience Partnership (SPEP), and the Clinical Scholar Program.

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required; Master's Degree preferred or in progress
• CNA Certification in relevant nursing specialty preferred
• Membership in nursing professional association preferred
• At least 5 years of relevant clinical experience
• Demonstrated excellence in nursing practice within relevant nursing specialty area and in education
• Knowledge of Quality based procedures, care pathways, and best practice guidelines
• Demonstrated understanding of relevant health legislation and standards of practice
• Commitment to excellence in all aspects of the discipline: professional practice, education, & research
• Strong clinical and theoretical background within specific clinical area(s)
• Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership in nursing clinical practice
• Experience in developing policies and procedures
• Evidence of strong mentoring, teaching, organizational and prioritizations skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to utilize principles of knowledge transfer to facilitate practice change & implementation of best practices
• Ability to work with a high degree of proficiency both independently and collaboratively with teams
• Excellent project-management skills
• Computer literacy in a Windows environment utilizing Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, & prioritize work within a dynamic environment
• Good attendance and work record are essential
• Excellent working knowledge of current and future trends in health care & within the nursing profession
• A resume outlining additional education, qualifications and experience must accompany the application

• Accountable for the daily oversight of the Extern and SPEP Program and integration of Clinical Externs and SPEP learners to clinical areas across the organization.
• In collaboration with unit manager, evaluates Clinical Externs and SPEP learner's performance issues in specified domains of practice, interpret performance issues and support remedial plans.
• Evaluates Professional Practice performance issues in specified domains, interpret performance issues and support remedial plans.
• Manages employee relations issues and promotes a teamwork environment where staff can interact productively and efficiently
• Integrate professional standards, facilitate professional involvement in quality, education and research initiatives, align professional goals with the strategic directions of St. Joes
• Promote and contribute to an environment that encourages research, it's application and implementation & evaluation of best practices
• Support excellence in nursing professional practice through leadership practice, education, project management and change agency
• Implement practice changes based on evidence and feedback to improve patient safety and quality care
• Develop review and update clinical policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to standardize practices across the organization
