Director of Development

Your new company

A Calgary based developer & property management company, with a growing portfolio across the south end of the city and into the surrounding communities is looking for a Director of Development to help drive the next phase of growth. They're moving into a new office in the SE of Calgary and have a healthy slate of projects on the go with more in the pipeline as the team builds out.

Your new role

You'll take ownership of the development side of the business with three active projects to get your arms around from day one. The portfolio is a mix of multi family and mixed use, with the immediate priority being a six storey wood frame residential project. Beyond that there's townhome development in a rural community and a larger build along McLeod Trail.. As the company grows, future projects could scale up to 25 storey mixed use towers with commercial, retail and community elements built in. You'll be a team of one to start though there's flexibility to bring on an assistant once the workload picks up.

What you'll need to succeed

You'll have a strong background in land development, ideally taking greenfield sites through the ASP process and out the other side. You understand how the City works, how to move projects through permitting and approvals and how to keep the wheels turning when things slow down. Multi family experience is essential, particularly six storey wood frame, and any exposure to mixed use, retail or commercial work is a real plus. You're organized, detail oriented and comfortable juggling multiple files at different stages. Some construction knowledge goes a long way here since you'll need to speak the same language as the trades and consultants on site.

What you'll get in return

A base salary up to $200,000, bonus, 4 weeks vacation, benefits and a host of other perks. The role is five days a week in office with site visits across the south of the city and out to High River roughly once a quarter. You'll have a direct line to the owner and a real say in how the business grows from here.
