Controller (Remote)

Job Responsibility: Athennian offers the most advanced platform for managing corporate structure records. The world's largest law firms and corporations use our products to manage corporate records, governance, and workflows. Our vision is to establish Athennian as the go-to platform for all critical business workflows for corporate finance, legal, compliance, and tax teams and keep them transaction-ready. We are looking to hire an experienced Controller to lead Finance and Operations in a rapidly growing start-up environment. The Controller will report directly to the Executive Management team and will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting and a variety of operational business activities that will help guide management in making key business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure an accurate and timely month-end financial close process, including consolidating the Company's subsidiaries.
• Reviews month-end workbooks to ensure all entries are posted and accounts reconciled.
• Ensures accurate SaaS and professional services revenue recognition.
• Manage and oversee the daily finance operations such as accounts payable, pay runs, treasury, employee expense reports, and accounts receivable.
• Perform internal and external financial and KPI reporting (including ARR, NDR, etc.) to various stakeholders, including the executive team, external investors, etc.
• Oversee and optimize all finance processes.
• Analyzes the impact of business changes and decisions and recommends accounting policies and procedures to account for these changes and how those changes roll up into the forecast.
• Prepares journal entries for more complex accounting, including stock-based compensation and transfer pricing.
• Perform a monthly budget vs. actual variance analysis.
• Prepares the financial statements in accordance with ASPE and completes related note disclosures.
• Manages annual external financial review process.
• Leads non-dilutive funding applications, claims, and reporting.
• Manage the Company's capitalization table, stock option register, and other corporate records.
• Manage tax compliance in Canada and the US, including, but not limited to, sales taxes, income taxes, and withholding taxes.
• Lead the SR&ED process with external providers and the engineering team.
• Work on ad-hoc projects as the need arises.

Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role
• Experience working in a SaaS company.
• CPA, or equivalent, designation
• Solid understanding and application of IFRS
• Experience working with NetSuite and QuickBooks is an asset
• Strong attention to detail in the compilation and review of analytic data
• Self-motivated, ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic environment
• Ability to work collaboratively across the organization where adaptability is key
• Able to manage staff across different functions
