Software Development Manager

Fully Remote Opportunity About BrightOrder BrightOrder Inc. is a leading provider of fleet-management software, powering the EMDECS cloud platform to help repair shops and fleet operators track vehicle maintenance and drive operational efficiency. Trusted by fleets across North America and the UK, we are committed to delivering innovative solutions that keep industries moving. We build technology that keeps fleets safer, smarter, and more profitable. The Role As a Software Manager, you will play a pivotal player-coach role, leading a team of talented developers in building and enhancing our EMDECS and emdecs one platforms. Reporting directly to the VP of Operations & Customer Experience, you will own the full software delivery lifecycle, from planning and execution to release management and production reliability. You will collaborate closely with Product and key stakeholders to shape the roadmap and ensure our solutions meet the evolving needs of our customers. This is a hands-on leadership role, where you will mentor developers, drive architectural decisions, and contribute production code, all while fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture. You are the rare individual who can lead a team and build with them. You set technical direction, mentor developers, drive delivery, and when needed — you write the code yourself. You don't just manage the roadmap. You live it. Key Responsibilities Include: - Lead, mentor, and coach the software engineering team to achieve high performance and professional growth. - Own delivery planning, sprint execution, and release management, ensuring timely and high-quality software releases. - Collaborate with Product and stakeholders to define the roadmap and translate requirements into actionable plans. - Drive architecture decisions, enforce code quality standards, and champion engineering best practices. - Oversee production reliability, incident response, and continuous improvement of operational processes. - Contribute hands-on to backend and frontend codebases, with a focus on AWS architecture and integrations. This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on the logistics industry, working in a fully remote, high-trust environment where your leadership and technical expertise will shape the future of fleet management technology. What You'll Love Doing: - Leading and growing a team of developers — coaching, unblocking, and elevating their craft. - Shipping production-grade code — because great managers don't just review PRs, they write them.

- Architecting scalable solutions on our AWS cloud infrastructure and integrating with partners like GoodData and HubSpot. - Driving technical roadmaps that align development priorities with business outcomes. - Raising the bar on quality — code reviews, standards, test coverage, and CI/CD discipline. - Collaborating cross-functionally with Product, CX, and leadership to solve real customer problems. Who You Are: - A proven development leader with 5+ years of software development and 3+ years managing direct reports. - Hands-on and proud of it. You're not above the codebase. You're in it. - Cloud-native minded — comfortable with AWS, modern backend/frontend stacks, and API-first design. - A clear, direct communicator — with developers, stakeholders, and executives. - Accountable. When something breaks, you own it. When something ships, you share the credit. - Relentlessly curious. You stay sharp. You follow the tech. You push the team forward. - A culture carrier. You lead with integrity, grow others, and call things as you see them. Requirements Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field — or equivalent hands-on experience.
