International Student Support Specialist

Job Responsibility:

Purpose: The International Student Support Specialist is responsible for providing specialized assistance and support to international undergraduate and graduate students through their lifecycle at Schulich from prospective student to recent graduate. The incumbent provides support for international student conversion as well as instrumental assistance in student transition to Canada (both pre-arrival and on arrival to Canada). As a licensed immigration practitioner (Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) or lawyer in good standing with the provincial law society) the incumbent advises international students on matters related to study and work permit requirements to ensure that students make informed decisions for themselves and their families as it relates to immigration. Education: University degree required. Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) in good standing with the respective regulatory body or a lawyer in good standing with the relevant provincial law society., Experience: Two years of relevant experience in the immigration field with extensive knowledge of Canadian immigration law, policies, and procedures as it relates to international students. Experience as an international student advisor in a University setting is considered a strong asset. Knowledge of University systems, structures, processes, decision-making structures and/or experience in recruitment and admissions is an asset. Skills: Registered Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) or lawyer in good standing with the provincial law society. Expert knowledge of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Regulations, as well as Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) programs, policies and procedures, including extensive knowledge of the various pathways for immigration to Canada. Ability to keep up-to-date with current and emerging immigration legislation, interpretations and best practices within the field of immigration. An understanding of Canada Border Service Agency, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), and Canada Revenue Agency programs and policies. Ability to analyze and integrate immigration legislation along with University policy and procedures High attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a compelling, concise, and accurate manner (written and oral). Experience utilizing existing and developing virtual communication methods, e.g. Zoom webinars, social media platforms Excellent public speaking and presentation skills, including the ability to deliver presentations to large audiences. Exceptional event planning and coordination skills. Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, Access. web publishing. social media. and editing capabilities. Demonstrated experience with Customer Relationship Management systems. Intercultural competence and ability to work effectively with diverse communities and promote inclusion. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to use tact and diplomacy in handling difficult situations while maintaining confidentiality. • Compensation:

York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
