Family Violence Prevention Co-Coordinator - Men’s Warriors - Part-Time - Temporary

Job Summary

Working from an Indigenous world view and under the supervision of the Manager of Family Wellness Supports, the Family Violence Prevention Co-Coordinator supports the lead facilitator of the Men’s Warrior’s Program. This position is responsible for supporting the Men’s Warriors Program from a trauma informed, culturally grounded place, towards providing an opportunity for Indigenous Men to gain a deeper understanding of family violence and its impact on self, family and community and work towards ending the cycle of family violence.

This position is a Part-Time Temporary position with approximately 20-25 hours per week with an expected end date of December 31, 2026. Hours and terms will be determined based on program needs.

Roles And Responsibilities

As a Family Violence Prevention Co-Coordinator, job duties include the following:

• Helping prepare for group sessions.
• Adjusting and modifying program curriculum depending on the needs of the group
• Support the intake of participants
• Maintaining materials and supplies for the program
• Connecting participants to appropriate support systems
• Collects and maintains statistics and provides program and activity reporting to the funder
• Maintains accurate and up-to-date case notes
• Always representing the VNFC in a respectful manner.
• Attend relevant professional training and meetings when directed.
• Participate in staff development, staff meetings and department meetings as required, including community and cultural events.
• Participate in data collection and evaluation tasks as requested.

Knowledge And Skills

Familiarity and experience in Indigenous Communities

• Some knowledge of Indigenous cultures and practices including from the territory in which the work of VNFC takes place. Ability to speak about one’s own Indigenous culture, if applicable, and any communities the (prospective) employee has previously lived in or held jobs within.
• In-depth knowledge of the experience of Indigenous peoples in Canada including the ongoing processes of colonization, discrimination, and structural violence, and the effects on the health and wellbeing of Indigenous communities; understanding of the wellness and healing capacities of Indigenous cultural resiliency and resurgence.
• Knowledge and practice of providing community-based services to Indigenous peoples using philosophies of cultural humility and cultural safety.
• Understanding of concerns and challenges faced by 2SLGBTQIA+ community

Communication Skills And Abilities

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to successfully develop and maintain relationships with diverse internal and external partners.
• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to independently maintain electronic correspondence, and other forms of professional communication.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients and the general public.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, and Outlook a requirement.

Leadership Skills And Abilities

• Must be able to work independently, as part of a team, and be dependable and self-motivated.
• Operates with a strong understanding of ethics, boundaries, and understanding of confidentiality.
• Ability to remain composed and maintain a professional attitude in high stress situations.
• Ability to support Indigenous women through personal crises.

Program Abilities And Knowledge

• Knowledge and practicing from a strength-based, trauma informed, culturally sensitive holistic approach.
• Awareness of the challenges faced by participants including but not limited to boundaries, mental health, violence, and stress.
• Knowledge of the Child and Family Community Service Act
• Ability to practice using philosophies of cultural safety and humility, and trauma informed care.
• Ability to support Indigenous men through personal crises.
• Knowledge and ability to work ethically and maintain professional boundaries when working with vulnerable clients.
• Physical requirement – the role includes spending a major portion of the work hours sitting, standing, driving and/or walking including stretching, bending, and lifting.

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

• Diploma or experience with strength-based, trauma informed practice.
• Preference for past experience working in/with an Indigenous serving organization or community setting
• Recognized course(s) related to position, particularly any focused on cultural safety and humility; or equivalent lived and/or professional experience
